A panel discussion on the topic, ‘What Makes a Song Cadence?’ has been scheduled for today. Wednesday, August 17, 2016, as one of many activities leading up to the fifth annual Cadence Lypso Show.
The discussion is to be held at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus, from 7:00pm.
The panelists are: Michelle Henderson, Ophelia Olivacce-Marie, Gregory Rabess, Ian Jackson, and Leroy “Wadix” Charles. Cadence pioneer, Gordon Henderson, will weigh in on the discussion via Skype from his base in France. Tim Durand will be the moderator.
Assistant Coordinator of the Cadence Lypso Committee, Marcel Harrigan, explained that the forum will focus on the “genesis” of Cadence Lypso, in hopes of helping artistes develop further appreciation of the genre.
“We need to go back to the roots, to talk about the components of cadence first, before we really venture into taking it on, and trying to mold it into something different,” he told Dominica News Online. “So, the artists, people are involved in the music can get a better appreciation of what really constitutes a Cadence song.”
Harrigan said that the forum will evaluate the evolution of the genre, and will reveal its past, in order to facilitate the modification of Cadence Lypso for the international market.
“It’s good to know your past. If you don’t know your past, you can’t conquer the future. So, we’re going back to really try to understand the dynamics of the sound, so the new artists can use those same dynamics, and add some new flavor to the song, to make the music even more internationally acceptable than it was back then,” he elaborated.
He added that young people should attend the discussion, to “develop an appreciation for the music, understand how it has developed, and how they too can contribute to that music.”
Cadence Lypso lovers, musicians and the general public are invited to attend and participate in what is expected to be a dynamic discussion.
The Cadence Lypso Show, organized by the National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) Cadence Lypso Inc, will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Pottersville Savannah.
But to begin with the panelist do not know about cadence music
Why was the date changed to after WCMF after all made plans before especially an Election year when persons need to get back to vote
Good move. Food for thought: Listen to Gordon, give him a key role in marketing, never more should we remain with broke and poor musicians with a great product and no marketing expertise.
WAW…wat a waw…a panel discussion on cadence-lypso and Chubby and Harley is not invited!!!!..waw..are you guys serious?….this is a joke..only in Dominica shit like this can happen..smfh
“We need to go back to the roots, to talk about the components of cadence first, before we really venture into taking it on, and trying to mold it into something different.”
Marcelle, if it is molded into something different, it cannot be cadence.

Great initiatives, sound approach, well spoken, we have to know our past in order to shape the future. Enough said, also we have to become famous before we can be considered fot induction into the Hall OF Fame. is the pannel discussion, going to be carried live on social media so those Artists in the Diaspora can guide themselves accordingly. Stay tuned.
Dominicans, except the patriots, stayed there moo-moo and watch the authorities victimize, ostracise our own music icon and father of Cadence-Lypso. Prevented the committed musician from accepting an award at the 2015 WCMF. The DFC decided to award Gordon, but higher authority decide Nothing doing.
Among the panelists,, lovers of the musical genre, in particular, I wonder who expressed concern and cry down that blatant hatred for a Dominican, who has excelled and helped put Dominica on the World stage, through his creative works in music, especially Cadencelypso.
Gordon, as honest and dedicated a patriot as he is , still lends himself to sharing his expertise about that musical genre, created by our own musicians. Isn’t that a great feat to embrace and praise? Instead, some hate the icon, to the point of declaring that he should not get any award on the 2015 WCMF. What a shame.
The true artist should never be an accomplice to corruption. Chant dem down.
You just like the fish they call…Saul… Only on one side you see HATRED… Damn hypocrite as you are!
