International Gospel artistes Marvia Providence and DJ Nicholas both of Jamaica are the headline performers on the lineup of Celebration of Gospel Concert Chapter 2.
Marvia Providence leans to the contemporary style gospel music while DJ Nicholas focus is on dancehall.
A number of local gospel acts including Sernel, Levi, Hill Top Singers, Sons of Zion, and Mission are expected to perform at the event scheduled for August 6 at the Newtown Savannah from 7 p.m.
According to Eddie George, the show will also feature Prophetic Dancers and drama by the Dream Team.
George is a member of Connected, the group which organizes the show. Connected comprises six individuals interested in the promotion of gospel music, raising its standard and showcasing local talent with a view to lifting the name of Jesus, George noted. The other members are Pauline David, Candia George-a local magistrate-, Gomez Drigo, Dr. Lenora Fevrier-Drigo and Kenrick Lawrence.
“Preparations are going well; it’s a lot of hard work, but we have a lot of support. Seeing that it is our second time around we know the ropes. We are just waiting on the date, it will be a packed lineup,” George told Dominica News Online.
He anticipates more sponsors will come onboard for the event, emphasizing that sponsorship is always a challenge. However, he is happy that all the artistes are booked.
“Last year was overwhelming. It was a great success, that’s why we decided to do it again. It was held in partnership with Voice of Life Radio, but we’re on our own this year,” George informed.
A highlight at the concert is the Kandiz Hotdog Eating Contest. This year will be the third year since the inception of this activity. The winner will receive a prize of $2,000.
The record is 11 hotdogs, and George said 15 to 20 competitors will have 10 minutes to beat the record. Interested participants can register at the gospel concert or call him at 276-1492.
@ D.optimist … thats the best comment i have seen here so far. and let me add to it by saying commitment to God is first and foremost. than ability/gift the trees will please God more than a professional ”gospel” band dat doesnt seek GOD DAILLY, HOURLY, MINITLY, SECONDLY, LIFELY, LOL. And on the other hand take your gift serious. practice, get better at what u do. gift without GOD is item on shelf for show case.
Hmmm. i will blessed the lord at all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth.. christians remember JAH took an ass to tell a prophet that an angel was blocking the road… So who are we to dictate what or through whom should GOD’s praise emanate….. yeah the professionals may be able to play very well, may be committed to the instruments and geared toward nuturing thier talents.. but the question still remains!! are they really CONNECTED to GOD?!!! or just connected as a group.?..
Once there is that connection with GOD i could care less whether is a FAT young man breathing through the mic or a lil indian on a tabou and his sisters playing a shak shak !!!
irregardless of the enormity of the planned event, one aspect remains constant; THE WORD OF GOD!! Ps. 8 vs 2 ..Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. (where does professionals fit in this line?)…. Just allow GOD to show off through us .. thats all!!!
— Psalm 8: 1-2 (KJV)
@Crazed Fan: Want to hear DJ Nich too! the bod group mad… loved their worship at logos…
GOD BE PRAISED!!!
@copawazon: well said, it’s about Jesus! My encouragement to dem bands is to do what they do to the best off their ability, improve as much as u can… those who hatin r jus doun so cuz they can’t do better that’s usually the case…. but ppl we r in a different KINGDOM its not a worldly vibes… the bible is really the truth eh the ‘world’ is really wiser than d ppl of God… Let us not be so….
BLESS THE LORD… Praise GOD for those who have made themselves available to God to use them… are we in a competition here! stop hatin ppll!!
Is God we liftin up not ourselves…
Big up to all dem who performing .. REMEMBER GOD RESIST THE PROUD BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE
Hey hey hey……..what is going on here…..is it a competition? We have no competition in the kingdom of God. B.O.D is mediocre at best…..this is not happening here. I don’t believe that christians are the one commenting here. I was not saying about B.O.D performing as a way of not allowing others since I believe that everyone should get a chance…but I never expected these kinds of comments. Never knew Brothers of destiny had such haters…..my oh my…..anywayz I believe that this band is on a mission not to glory in themselves but in God….they may not be professionals but they are connected. Young people on a mission to seek and save the lost. We should be praying for them not saying who is best…Gomez, Kenrick et al……..of course they are great and I pray that God will continue to use them…….Everyone has something to offer…….no need to hate my plple
I agree with the person who said that BOD is mediocre at best. People please! Joel has charisma and he can minister. The musicians are ok…ish…lol. So basically it’s no Joel…no BOD. I’ve heard Mission play at Meet The Artist…dem guys tight! Talk about great musicianship. Think about it…Gomez, Kenrick, Leon and Yohan in the same band!!! Cyan get better than that!!
Is it just me? Or is DJ Nicholas “trying” to look like he’s thuggin? I mean come on, you’re a gospel singer. Nothing could say “softee” louder than that.
Fix ya face lil bwoy, put on a smile ya heard!
marvia rocked the crowd the last time she was dere and dis lady is a powerful woman and she is goin to pull a crowd again.every year bring dis lady and u all wil c who pulls the most people..big up to u my girl.blessings
Bod has really upgraded themselves, they rocked @ gospel explosion 5 and will also be @ rabbit fest this weekend. Da got lots more bands to expose..Give others a chance man Sons of zion. Mission and Hilltop deserve an opportunity to hit the big stage too. Marvia is hot but she’s more for the older folks I think and dj nicholas is adored by the youth so I suspekt it will be a full house this year My desire though is to see ppl come to kno Christ @ gospel concerts in Da.that’s the whole point
LOL @ B.O.D them man is mediocre at best, but i rather have them over Marvia Providence, she sucks, go sonz of zion!!!!!!!!
y b o.d hve 2 b on d line up? ppl fed up wit dat group…let dem take a breather n give others a chnce….b.o.d n nicole christian ka lasay moun……stupes
@Favours: That’s true…. If they put them in every line up then people will get tired and they will die out…
Last year was great. This year will be greater. Lets go!!!! I not missing it
DJ Nicholas is my favorite Jamaican artist. He is great and loves the Lord. His testimony is to be heard by all rastas and gang bangers.
It was about time! soo excited! hey everybody needs a chance B.O.D. cannot be there every time.
Well i must say that i myself have grown to love the group B.O.D… can’t say that i’ve always been a supporter. However i think that Joel has been doing a great Job ministering the word. Really gonna miss them at the SHOW… however can’t wait to hear Dj Nicolas….
