Lime Lifetime Award goes to Gordon Henderson and Karifuna

The Lime Lifetime Award has this year been awarded to Cadence-lypso legend Gordon Henderson and the Karifuna Cultural Group.
Gordon Henderson, a veteran singer, songwriter and entertainer for more than forty years was the founder of Dominican band, Exile One, which created cadence-lypso music in Guadeloupe in the early seventies.
The Karifuna Cultural Group, since its inception in 1979, has been working to revive and maintain the remaining aspects of the Kalinago culture.
The awardees were recognised at the Creole in the Park’s opening ceremony held on Monday afternoon.
Corporate Communications Manager at LIME Ferdina Frampton was one of many persons recognised for their invaluable contributions to the LIME Creole in the Park.
Craft vendor Miranda Joseph of Shalom Craft was awarded for being the most consistent vendor. According to the citation, Joseph has been vending at the event from its inception.
The event is expected to run from October 22nd to October 25th, 2012 and forms part of Dominica’s 34th Independence celebrations.

Gordon and karifuna are well deserved Awardee.They both sustained the culture.
Karifuna stayed home and do their thing,and not much support they got.
Gordon went out there took some brothers with him, and what happen?He blaze a trail for musicians who would not have venture,if he wasen’t there befor.

I could give you a history lesson in Dominican music,from pre VOLTAGE 4,where one of DOMINICA”S top drummer was born, STY ROCK,and more,but you would have to do your research,to save space.

Congratulations to Mr. Gordon Henderson. He is very deserving of this award. He has been very instrumental in the developement of Cadence-Lypso and has paved the way for many Dominica musical artist and bands. I am so happy that he is recognized in this way. He is a true Dominican, who loves his country. We love you Gordon, Congrats again!
Hope Chubby will get his soon, i think he held up well stayed back in DA,Gordon Henderson did well but not as well as Chubby course Chubby stayed home held the Fort while Gordon lived in Paris and did nothing for a great good time, i say give it up to CHUBBY !!
Just remember that Gordon paved the way for Chubby. You give credit where credit is due. Chubby will get his turn in due time. Bob Marley left Jamaica periodically to reach out to the world but his heart was always in Jamaica. Dominica was also able to get world recognition from Gordon Henderson. You know what, I should even continue because you just need to educate yourself!

We understand your plea for Chubby, but it could be done without taking down another black man. Gordon did an excellent job from inception and continues to perform to this day, he is more than deserving of his award
How could you even compare a legend like Gordon Henderson to Chubby. Chubby idolise Gordon henderson. it’s because of Gordon, people like Chubby have candence Lypso. Gordon is the ORiginal King of Cadence…A legend! Everyone else came after him.
Gordon henderson is the one who created the music cadence Lypso,and named it. FYI
He opened the way for many of oyur mucians.
Yet you think that if he had stayed home, he would have been more patriotic???
He was able to make a better contribution from outside. you don’t have to be on ground zero to contribute.
