Preparation for 2012 calypso season ongoing

Tasha P in action earlier this year

Preparation for the 2012 calypso season is ongoing, the Dominica Calypso Association has disclosed.

The first round of the competition, the elimination round, will be held January 08, at Harlem Plaza. No figures have been disclosed yet regarding the number of calypsonians who will participate; however, people have begun registering.

“Usually every year you see the same calypsonians. Every year we have in the region about 40 people vying at the competition,” said Executive member of the DCA Daryl Bobb.

Close to 50 calypsonians signed up for elimination round this year.

Ok the woman time has come to fruition though dubious it was accepted and celebrated. No more first woman to win a crown no more man verses woman judges and media pundits can now go back to the task at hand and focus on calypso and judge all participants on the set criterions and not on whether it is a woman or man. May the best calypsonian win! Everyone bring your A game!

Oh Tasha P and other music fans.

Please have a look at people who left this life and glamour and embraced Islam. These links are of former Cat Stevens. On that site you will see more personalities.

Why do you think it is necessary to force your religion down people’s throat day in and day out? Everyone has a right to decide what religion they would like to follow. What are u a self-ordained prophet for islam? respect the rights of others if you would like others to respect yours

OK drake I got my own lyrics too; My adlibs will be partterned on the Great Sour sour

Every year they have a priest judging the calypso king
Isn’t it fitting pastor BJ should judge the Carnival Queen
Karesa didn’t know that together with those fu chet in the cabinet
A conman spiritual advisor also reeking havoc on his female harvest.
The followers say touch not god anointed for ye shall receive condemnation
But the anointed pastor is free to demand money and order abortion

Good to Go, Good to Go

I am LMAO – My only advise to BJ is – if you can’t bit them join them. He should do like Jerry Lloyd and join the calypso competition. By doing so BJ will be turning the tables on the calypsonian.
Remmebre BJ was once the lead singer for a band in vielle case so BJ can sing calypso. He can even ask the ex carnival queen to do some vocal backup and boom he getting full score for stage presentation.

Doc. Love, does everything have to be about Skerrit? Why don’t you all think outside the box? The downfall of a number of calypsos and calypsonians last year was that too many of them were on the same topic; Skerrit. Calypso is about social commentary and it can cover a wide range of issues affecting the society; teenage pregnancy, poor parenting, the lazy and unproductive citizens of this land, the lack of etiquette and good manners in our society, the lack of courtesy constantly displayed by our drivers, especially the bus drivers, the jealousy that we encounter everyday…and the list can go on, all social issues that our calypsonians can sing about! Tasha P worn the crown last year with two beautiful non-political songs, maybe it is time for our song writers to change course and explore other topics

Stop your hypocrisy dude- Calypso is about socialpolitical and economic commentary and politics drives those sector. Historically calypsonians sing about politicians red blue or green. When the UWP was accused of all the corruption there were lots of calypsos about government corruption. Now that the DLP is so much more corrupt what the heck do you expect. Everyday is a scandal with Skerrit and the DLP ; the more they blatantly lie is rolling the wicket suited for the old west Indian pace attack. I do understand your concern and your calypso phobia – your problem is symptom of all those ho cannot handle the truth.

Calypso has this unique ability to get all people together and singing the same chorus –like puppet master for example. You are simply afraid of everyone joining in the choruses to come. You apologist can lie, make excuses , make fools of yourselves just to protect whatever interest there is in this DLP criminal enterprise but when it comes to calypso some of you can’t stay away.

Truth shall be victorious and even when apologist like you singing the calypso choruses you are merely disposing of the muck, garbage and scum used to suppress the truth. So keep on lamenting “ you just can’t stop the tide”- Bob Marley

What is a non-political song? that is the creeping misconception many Dominicans are now spewing. Calypsonians could sing about any other Govt. or politician, or leader or against corruption, but should not sing against the evil deeds, or corrupt practices of the Skerritt DLP Govt.

Calypsonians themselves were suggesting last year, that there is too much politics in calypso. What UTTER RUBBISH? Politics is about our way of life. Food on your table, money in your pocket, unemployment, child abuse, illegal activities, stealing public funds, the protection of our environment, money-laundering, human trafficking, selling D/ca passports to all and sundry, etc, etc, are all linked to politics.

The problem is that some calypsonians have allowed their partisan politics, their support for the DLP Govt. in power, to cloud their better judgement and to predominate over their moral and ethical faculties. They are abdicating their role as artists not to expose the wrongs in society, bad governance, corruption and nepotism. Our good moral values are being compromised.

Calypsonians have more than enough material to create interesting, insightful songs and melodious music for the season. There are issues like peas. Fraud, forgery of birth certificates, injustice system, fire-bombing, passport sales, non-Dominicans appointed DA Ambassadors who are in possession of our diplomatic passports. There are issues of Public Works Corporation (PWC), increase in crime and violence, child women abuse, respect for laws, etc., etc., calypsonians must be Fearless to relate the stories as it affects the people of the country.
