UPDATE WITH PHOTOS: Rachel wins QTS 2012!

An incredulous Rachel Jno Baptiste after being announced 2012 QTS winner; next to her is second place winner Kersel Evans

Rachel Jno Baptiste of Stockfarm is the winner of the 2012 Q Talent Search competition.

She sang her way to the title with two stirring, crowd pleasing performances at the QTS final which was held at the Arawak House of Culture in Roseau on Saturday night.

In second place was Kersel Evans of New Town and Jamaal Lloyd of Canefield took the third position.

Bram Sanderson from Wesley came fourth.

This is the third year of the Q Talent Search competition.

Asha Thomas of Paix Bouche won in 2010 while Shamika Sorhaindo of Delices captured the title in 2011.

Meanwhile, Webster Marie of Calibishie won the NCCU organized cadence lypso competition which was also held on Saturday night at the New Town Savannah.

Marie won with a song called Toutouni written by one of Dominica’s top female artistes, Michelle Henderson.

DNO will have more on the results of that competition later.

Way to go Rachel. Keep reaching for higher heights. Be a good role model for the younger ones coming up. Your attitude of sharing your skill in singing in helping some of your competitors will never go unnoticed. Whenever you give you get, never forget that.

Congratulations to Rachel, Kersel, Jamaal and Bram. In my opinion the show was very very well judged. As someone with a musical ear and being at the show, I was dissapointed in Carleen in the second round. I do believe that she did not deserve a place and that the top four were the more consistent.

I want to commend Q 95 for this initiative and I must say that I appreciate the fact that Dominica can have their own American Idol. I love the fact that the same judges have been judging the show from its inception and that the same judges judge all the competitions. I hope Q95 keeps it that way with he same judges beceuse so far they have been doing a fantastic job and I want to comment the judges for a job well done. It is a very good idea it reminds me of American Idol and so you think you dance or even project runway where the same judges every year judge the competitions.

I just had one other comment though, I think that the under 16 QTS should be judged by a panel of judges at a competition as well. I cannot believe that this little girl Ashanti who can never keep a key won the under 16 over the little boy and the other girl who sang at the semi finals. Please look into that Q95 she was horrible.

The organisers of the show did a fantastic job and Matt thank you for this iniciative. I am looking forward to next year.

Congrats! I just want to comment on your surname. It is a pleasure to see it written this way. cos when all of them travel they change the surname. Jno suddenly becomes degradable and they actually start criticizing it, because we supposed to be more stupid in DA thats why we spell it that way. some of them will add ‘and thats John’ like that supposed to be better than the other. More Jno. Baptiste’s should start looking into why their surname is spelt that way, rather than clinging to everything those countries have. We have our own roots and history, and don’t necessarily have to follow those big cities. Why we always pull down our own i don’t know. Why we always embrace theirs as the better I don’t know. I wonder if we will ever see an English person come and change their name forus. Congrats again and hold on to your name.

If I was a judge on the night of the finals, I would have given Rachael the edge over all. I would then place Andese after Carlene then Kersel. I am a true supporter of Kersel, but I believe he was not at his best. Any ways guys Congrats

Good show. Congrats to Rachael. Her both songs were hot hot hot. I think the key is singing two songs that people can identify with. Singing a song that most people dont know, no matter how well it is sung is disadvantageous. Hats of to the runner-ups. Everyone was a winner in their own rights.
One observation thoug. Though the Mcs did say from time to time to vote for your favorite. They should say so after each performance; but they only did so for some and not for all. They need to be mindful of that. I think it was just a passive mistake. Saying to vote for A after his performance(if he is your favorite) and not making that remark after B sings is not right.

Review all 22 performances and you will see what I mean.

All of the participants in the final had a lot of talent and I hope all consider themselves as winners to make it this far and pursue their singing ambitions. I wonder though, why are all of the girls overweight? Of course not every top singer is slim but I hope they consider image consultation and trim down some sizes which will play a part in launching them to the international stardom which they deserve and can get to if they really work hard.

ADELE!!!! let people be! Everybody will not fit into a mold, ask the skinny ones the truth and you will hear the horror stories behind many of them and their struggles to fit a certain image. Have you seen how Jennifer Huddson looks like a freak of nature a huge head, large cheek bones and a funny body below. I’m all for people being healthy and weight concious, but let that be a personal decision. Post your picture. You might me someone standards of UGLY and even with a skinny body. Let the woman have her moment

they are trying to make cadencelypso competition too much like calypso competitions. that presentation and them thing there on stage should not be. just come and sing, showing authenticity , originality and close adherance to the creole language and clearity of words ect.presentation should come from how you follow the music and sing you song in tune bringing out your message clearly. they are insulting cadence lypso now. i also realise that the songs chosen had no political commentry though there were a few songs with a little political and social. them judges who chose the 20 songs what’s up with that. i also see that our legend michel henderson , most of her songs went through where as other persons who are not popular and are trying to write to hope fully continue the work of persons like michel , there songs were put aside. there’s so much more work needed to be done. i also wonder if the first prize was 2,000., whether so many usual calypsonians would have participated. just observaing what money can do.

    DNO Administrator

I have no affiliation with either of the two shows. But it is unfortunate that you have a head line “Rachel wins QTS 2012” and in the article, you write, “Meanwhile, Webster Marie of Calibishie won the NCCU cadence calypso competition”. Common you should have a headline for the NCCU show. One can ask many questions why you wrote the article this way.

Admin: DNO sponsored both events. So there is no reason we would want to give preferential treatment to one over the other. The fact is we received information and photos about the QTS show first although we made similar arrangements to cover both events. As the story indicates, DNO will have a more comprehensive story on the NCCU cadencelypso competition as soon as we receive more information and photos.

anonymous you always have a stupid thinking and believing what u saying is true. THE REASON WHY DOMINICANS CANNOT GO ANYWHERE IS BECAUSE WE TAKE MORE TIME IN SPENDING TIME ON THE USELESS THINGS THAN ON THE POSITIVE THINGS.

  26. October 21, 2012
