Contestant number seven in the Carnival Queen Pageant, Kelcia Righton, can now breathe a sigh of relief as her sponsorship for the event has been secured.

The Fort Young Hotel (FYH) has become her official sponsor. This is the first time the hotel is sponsoring a Carnival Queen contestant.

Righton, 21 of Kingshill, an employee of the hotel, will join six other young ladies as they aim for the coveted title of Miss Dominica 2015 on February 13, 2015 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

“I am excited and honored to be the first carnival queen contestant to be sponsored by this institution,” Righton said at the Waterfall room at the FHY on Wednesday morning. “May this union be one of new beginnings, blessings of light, peace and all things good.

She said all the support from the hotel will go a long way.

Meantime General Manager of the hotel, Mavlyn James, said the sponsorship is special for two reasons.

“I am quite pleased and excited to announce our official sponsorship for the carnival queen contestan,t 2015 Miss Kelcia Righton,” James said. “It is indeed a special occasion for us for two reasons. One, this is the first time that the FYH has ever sponsored a queen contestant. We believe that this is the right time to do so and it is necessary as a stakeholder in the tourism and hospitality industry that we play our part. The second reason, is that Kelcia is an employee of the FYH. She is an outstanding employee and we value her contributions to the overall success of the hotel.”

James said it is her belief that Righton is destined for greater things and they feel “honored” to assist her to fulfill one of her many dreams as Miss Dominica and to serve as an ambassador for the island.

Product Promotions Manager at the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) Kathy Cuffy Jno-Jules said the move is a bold one by FYH.

“DFC and DDA is quite pleased that Fort Young Hotel has made this bold move and stepped up to the plate and has come up to be the sponsor to Miss Kelcia Righton for Mass Dominique 2015. We are very excited about that,” she noted.

She also took the opportunity to call on the other hotels, properties and the business community to follow suit.

“So I wish to encourage other partners to come on board as well and show your support so as to preserve our culture and heritage in the form of carnival for being a sponsor for Mass Dominique 2015,” she said.

Odessa Elie, who is a teacher of the Convent High School, is the only other contestant to have received full sponsorship from BIG EDGE and first time sponsor, Miniyas 7/11 Mini Mart.

The other contestants for the pageant are Normanna Jno Baptiste, 24 from Tarish Pit, Keianna John, 22 of Salisbury, Odessa Elie, 19 from Bath Estate, Beyandra Blanchard from Point Michel, Charis Nation, 20 from Castle Bruce and Patrice Dorsette, 20 from Marigot.

It have so many big business companies in DA what they waiting for to sponsor those girls nuh? I can’t believe it is first time Fort Young sponsoring a queen. They are a big stake holder in the tourism business and yet they not playing their part. Come on those people with all their money hiding, even little Big Edge and Miniyas on board. I must say I am impressed with the manner in which Big Edge in particular always support so many activities . I so disappointed that is not their boss that going up for Roseau North. He would make the best Parl rep and minister in DA.

    To DFC and DDA

May I suggest something to you?

    1. Can you try to get a multi-year (5) commitment from those establishments for the young ladies who put their names up for the Queen Show?

    2. As soon as the 2015 Queen Show is over, can you start working to secure the sponsors for 2016? Therefore, before you even approach the young ladies, you can tell them there will be sponsorship awaiting them from X Y Z companies.

What I am trying to say is, remove the stress from that situation. I have seen times when some of the ladies are left wondering if they will even secure a sponsor. That need not be that way. Al it requires is a little advanced planning and action on your part.

My God, Christmas, has not even come yet, but some people putting everything before, they are more concerned about Elections, and Carnival, that is why this country is “back to front and upside down”. And DNO, please do not delete my comment, I will get very, very upset.

    Thank You.
