Sernel launches debut gospel album this weekend

Local gospel artist Sernel

Local gospel artist Sernel Florent, will fulfill one of his musical aspirations when he launches his first album“Give a helping hand” on Saturday July 3, in grand style.

The launch, which is carded to take place at the Old Mill Cultural Center from 7:30 p.m. will showcase the talents of other local and regional gospel artists.

The twenty-five-year-old performer will present his15 track album which consists of seven genres of music, including local bouyon to Dominica and the world.

In an exclusive interview with Dominica News Online, the Good Hope resident expressed pride in his accomplishment. He said however, that it was not without several hiccups.

Florent described the album as a tremendously positive one which will bring upliftment to everyone who listens.

He added, “Why I named the album ‘Give a helping hand’ is because of who I am personally, I love to help people as a young man and when I see how difficult it is for some people out there, my heart just wants me to go out there and become something so that I can give back to my community and Dominica on a whole… and to also have a positive influence over the lives of young people.”

The album was written by Florent and produced by former ‘Partners in Crime’ and ‘First Serenade’ member Eric Bardouille. Mastering was done by Cornel Phillip. Florent also did some arranging and producing on the album.

The album was pre-released on March 19 this year.

Saturday’s show, according to Florent, is expected to be a memorable one. Backed by his own band, Florent said that he intends to give a performance of a lifetime.

He thanked various sponsors and made special mention of LIME – the headline sponsor.

Among those who will perform at the event are locals DJ Alfy, Ranny Host and Timmy. Trinidadian artist Que will also make an appearance.

Tickets for the show are available at CLC Bookstore and Garden of Eden Pharmacy and will cost $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

Congratulations Sernel, you have come a long way. My advise to u is always remember the source of ur talent, who u are and where u come from. this is only the foundation of ur success. the journey from here on is not going to be easy, brase urself for the critiques, haters, down- pressers and wolves in sheep’s clothing. Just put God first in all that u do. Remember he is the author and finisher of it all.
