Seven young women from different churches around Dominica are expected to take to the stage to compete for the 2015 Woman of the Bible title.

The event hosted by the Abundant Life Deliverance Ministries of Pointe Mitchel is expected to take place at the Harlem Plaza in Newtown on July 31 from 7:00 pm.

They are; Cynthia Keisha Felix of the Living Hope Fellowship, who will portray Jeptha’s daughter; Jennilia Theophille of the Giraudel Pentecostal Church, who will portray Job’s wife; Kendra Jean Jacques, from the Deliverance Baptiste Church in Goodwill who will portray Jezebel; Leanndra Jean-Pierre from the Wesley Pentecostal Church who will portray Ruth; Marlena Panthier of the New Light Ministries in Portsmouth, who will portray Delilah; Pauline David, from the God’s Family House of Worship in Portsmouth who will portray Mary Magdalene (The Alabaster box woman) and Mandana Joseph of the Seed of Life Ministries at Paix Bouche who will portray Hagar.

The participants will compete in four segments including introductory speech, talent, life skills, and biblical knowledge.

The event was officially launched at the Fisheries Complex on Wednesday.

Coordinator of the show, Pamela Guiste, said the contest is mainly about having the young ladies come together at an event that will unify the respective churches and raise funds to assist the work of the church.

She stated that funds from the event will go towards assisting the Abundant Life Fellowship Church at Pointe Mitchel.

She noted that one of the priority areas and concerns of the church in that community is the youth and plans are afoot to build a community complex which will house a drug rehabilitation centre, preschool, classrooms and a conference center.

“The church had to undertake some fundraising activities to be able to start the ball rolling on meeting its goal in putting a structure,” Guiste explained.

Meantime Woman of the Bible 2014 winner, Prisca Julien who represented the Coulibistrie Gospel Mission Church, said she plans to work with all the contestants in trying to reach out to more young people.

“I plan to work with not just the person who wins but all the women to try to get more things going on…to try to reach out to more young people, to give a different option of living right, living pure, living as an example, living peaceful and showing a Godly type of love,” she said

She encouraged the contestants to keep finding positive things to get involved in.

“Become the organizers of positive initiatives,” Julien stated. “It is our responsibilities as Christian women and talented people to use our lives, wisdom, knowledge and gifts to build our sister churches, build the youth of Dominica and to spread the message of hope, peace and love to Dominica.”

What is the criteria to be selected for this? I would want to believe these ladies lives should be an example. Look into some of their lives and you will know the same and disgrace they have brought and continue to bring on Christianity. I know its a challenge to live a christian life but when we blatantly get involved in immorality like adultery, fornication, lying, adoption, bullying, lustful behaviour, obsessive acts to name a few and them portray ourselves as women of God fire go burn us. Bunch of hypocrites

      How is adoption sinful?

    • July 12, 2015

      Alas, …

I know nothing about the characters of the women who are taking part in this presentation.

I speak about the nature of the event and its potential out of my experience as a former pastor who has spent years planning and facilitating such activities. I say nothing about the lives of the contestants because I am not qualified to do so.

I do not know you nor am I in possession of the facts apart from what I have read on DNO and even then I don’t know how much of that to believe. I remind you that the Lord Jesus said “Judge not…” and I think this is a situation where that scripture may apply. I doubt if you have proof for all you say. Even if a person has failed and committed a serious offence in the past how could you know the individual has not repented and found cleansing according to 1 John 1:9 and Hebrews 8:12?

An important part of the Christian life is helping our fellow believers on this faith journey.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

“I doubt if you have proof for all you say. Even if a person has failed and committed a serious offence in the past how could you know the individual has not repented and found cleansing”–@Reverend Donald Hill: July 12, 2015

Rev. Hill, I responded to that same commented, with the same sentiment of yours–just a slight difference in wordings.

What you said above is the attitude of most human beings–our Dominican people are not excluded–especially that they seem to be growing up, repeating what they hear from their older peers–without personal reading or something like it, no one knows what they are talking about–but they always have some form of judgment against those around them.

No matter how good a person, there is always someone or those who will find a fault to bring down that person–but God’s will be done! No wicked mind can defile His work, through His chosen servant of this world,

    • July 13, 2015

@Alas poor Christianity July 12, 2015 “but when we blatantly get involved in immorality like adultery, fornication, lying, adoption, bullying, lustful behavior,—–”

You are simply speaking of things you have heard and not understanding them. All that is mentioned above is the work of the flesh–the imperfect nature of mankind–which can be healed by the Blood of Jesus Christ, but gradually–that is the reason a person become a Christian.

A Christian’s mind enters the renewal process, to die to the fleshly demands, motivated by the human senses –again I say; this happens gradually, not overnight.

In the world of today, we are either sinners or Christians–we cannot be both.

So why don’t you take some time to observe the Life of a Christian around you, and to stop speaking things that you do not understand. I am sure that there is more Christians than sinners, where you are, or God has no Power against the enemy–but that cannot be!

Why would any self-respecting woman want to be like a woman in the Bible, a text that tells women to be subservient to men and that portrays women, generally speaking, as sexual objects and fools? Thank goodness for feminsim that has attempted to elevate us all above such reactionary patriarchal notions. We need to be educated and to feel that we deserve respect both from ourselves and from others, since respect for women is sorely lacking in Dominica.

    • July 12, 2015

      Gabby:

You are wrong about what you say regarding the Bible and women.

Women hold a high place in Biblical Christianity.

You have no understanding of God’s order in marriage nor in the church. My wife and I have been happily married for over 50 years in a marriage that is based upon the Holy Scriptures. My wife is an ordained minister.

There is nothing in the Bible when it is rightly understood that would hold a Bible believing woman back from reaching her full potential and having a gloriously happy life.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

I am not impressed with feminism. Feminism has wrought havoc on the world in general. Many relationships and marriages have broken up because of this feminism, called women’s lib.
First it was feminism, the movement. Now it is so-called same sex marriage. I need not elaborate on this one except to state, what next.

@Analy Thomas July 10, 2015 “I think what you are trying to say is that churches today are based on membership and the law and not on Christianity! That if all Christians were united there would be fewer churches and even though there are many churches they should all have the same goal”—–

The above is part of your comment below–responding to “The Real Facts” and I embrace it.

At Revelation 3: 20 Jesus said to one of those Churches of the General 7: “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door I will come in to eat with him and him with Me”.

What was Jesus saying in that Scripture? He was saying that He wants a “Personal” or “Intimate” Relationship with those who have claimed to accept Him, by faith. Our gathering as the Church, in a Church House, should be the reason to worship God and fellowship with brothers and sisters of the congregation, in Love. This kind of function should have nothing to do with Religion.

    • July 11, 2015

      @Analy Thomas July 10, 2015 continued.

God is not about Religion, for Religion is applied through “rules” and “laws” which demand “good works; but that was the reason Jesus suffered, died, and was buried for the sake of man–who could not obey the law through perfection, hence that inability of perfect obedience brought death to the imperfection

Also God is Love, but Religion does not demonstrate God’s Love that is the reason for the vile, strife, discord, and disdain of today; men are fighting to be the mightiest, most powerful, most popular, hence, through their quest for fame and fortune–they forget the Most High God–their own Creator

But unfortunately the majority of Christians do not understand this–that is the reason for all the different names of the Churches, causing division and disunity among ourselves. The Roman Catholic Church dominates the Churches of Christianity, and yet it doctrines is base on “Religious” rules and regulations.

      • July 11, 2015

        @Analy Thomas July 10, 2015 continued.

Religion caused the death of Jesus; but that was prophecy fulfilled, as Jesus Himself said at Matthew 5: 17: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”

Jesus fulfilled the law by His humility and obedience to the Will of the Father; and by doing so, all of us who accepted His claims–as to who He said He was, we would receive Salvation–the Life He received from the Father, on our behalf.

Faith, Hope, and Love are the ground (foundation) of the Message of Life in the Bible; it is the Gospel of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, through the Person of flesh and bones–Jesus, the Christ. That is the mystery that all who accepted Jesus should understand.

Christianity is not about building members for a Church House, to employ a man to make a living by the hands of the poor–that is what religion does. Christianity is a contemplative Relationship with God, by faith.

While I think this show should depict older women who are seasoned in the word and can teach the younger women as the bible says, I must say Dominicans we are a bunch of hypocrites. When our young women are parading the stage and TV during carnival showing off all their Ass-ets(assets) half naked in a so called beauty pageant, I do not hear those negative comments from you all. You accept them by paying your big money to go see them. These young ladies are neatly dressed sending out a positive message. We should applaud them and not criticize them. At least they are involved in something positive. All you negative people think again and give the young people and the organizers a break oh.

I think this is a godly and uplifting activity and would be happy to see it being presented in our Canadian churches.

    (1) It creates an opportunity for Christians of various evangelical churches do something together and learn to appreciate each other more.

    (2) It is a teaching tool showing ideals for Christian womanhood, and warning against the badness of women like Jezebel.

    (3) Hopefully, it will raise money for the work of God.

Of course there are many other women in the Bible that could be featured. But it is not possible to use them all the same year! There would be no Bible women left to use next year!

At first I thought why include women like Jezebel and Delilah? Then I remembered that this is the reality of life! People need to be shown what to avoid as well as what to seek when it comes to developing character. Without this scope the producers would have an incomplete cast, and the lessons would fall short.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

    • July 10, 2015

Honestly, I don’t think this is meant to be “a beauty pageant”.

People are free to decide whether they will or will not go up to the carnival and beauty pageants. However, many mature born again people have no interest in these activities.

      The Bible says:

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust there, but he that doeth the will of God abides for ever.” (1 John 2:15-17)

Your pastors are the best ones to decide if a particular teaching method is appropriate for your congregation to be involved in. Obvious this approach has the approval of a significant number of pastors. Remember they are the shepherds. Read Hebrews 13:7,17.

No matter what anybody does for the Lord or how they do it there will always be naysayers. Some are jealous. Some will argue that it has never been done before and it is not needed now. Some can’t accept anything that is initiated by a woman!

When Dr. Oswald J. Smith started the great Peoples Church in Toronto he had opposition. He said “The dogs may bark, but the chariot rolls on.”

What can be wrong with learning from the women of the Bible? “For whatsoever things were written aforehand were written for our learning, …” (Romans 15:4)

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist

      July 11, 2015

How is anything based on such an anti-woman book as the Bible telling girls to ‘be proud of yourselves?’ The Bible tells women to be subservient to men. This is not the way women should be taught. Women should be taught to respect ourselves and that we are all equal, whatever our gender or gender identity may be. The Bible is an anti-feminist text, which is why the earliest feminists, and most feminists in general, have not been religious.

Are you the one who is transsexual? That figures.
The Bible is the Word of God. Who are you to criticize it, deny it and condemn it?
Conform your will and life to God. You deny God and the Holy Bible, you deny yourself eternal salvation.

  18. July 9, 2015

Okay, but if we are going to portray the women of the Bible, why not go for those women who would have a very strong influence on our Christian women of today.

    (1) Why not women like Mary, Jesus mother–there is lot to learn about her–based on her situation of the day.

    (2) Why not Hannah, the barren wife of Elkannah who prayed to God to flourish her womb, the reason she gave birth to Samuel–there is a great story behind the birth and Life of Samuel.

    (3) Why not Esther–the Queen herself; Rahab, the brave prostitute

    (4) Then we have Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptiste, Pricilla of the Book of Acts

Those women are models for women of today–much more than I would say about Delilah, Jezebel, and most of all, Job’s wife. All we know about her in the Bible is that she said to Job: “Curse God and die”. Job called her a foolish woman for speaking like that. And that was the end of her–Job 2:9 What impact does a foolish woman have on society?

    • Hmmm

My own nation (Canada) our churches need more activities like this.

It lets people know there can be fun in the Christian life.

It provides something worthwhile for them to do that is both intellectually instructive and morally uplifting.

It gives then an alternative to harmful activities and debasing “entertainment” which is so attractive to our young people. We need dedicated creative Christians who will give their time to show the now generation that the church has something better to offer.

There is so much “out there” to draw our young people away from God. It is time to let the church be the church :!: I thank God for fellow believers who are rising up to meet this challenge in various and divers ways. God have mercy on the wretched souls who have nothing better to do than backbite and find fault :!: If you are a Christian please throw the full weight of your support behind such projects.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

Copycat. Copying the US TV program.
I think it is extremely sad there are so many different religions in Dominica. How did these different religions come about? They go about saying they are saving souls but this only brought about lack of love, discord, division, enmity and confusion.
No wonder D/ca is what it is today with numerous crimes/murders, the likes of which did not occur when we had few religions and we all lived happily, peacefully, in harmony and it was a safer place. I see the cause of some of those problems in Dominica.
Dominica did not (does not) need so many different religions. Your leaders have made a grave mistake of forming their own church. Mark my words. Sooner or later you will find out the truth.
Ensure you dress appropriately as women of the Bible – modestly and conduct yourself accordingly.

    • The Real Facts

These days nearly everyone wants his church and forms his church. Oh my!
Those different religions are not pleasing to God. How this hurts the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He must be shedding tears to see such religions and religious indifference.
There will be no division, discord and disunity in Heaven with various religions and belief; also over religion and practice of same.
There is One Heaven where those who are saved, holy and perfect souls as they lived, through the grace and mercy of God will go to.
St. Paul has told us: “Nothing defiled will enter Heaven.” This means, absolutely no stain of sin. I could elaborate on this further.
