A six-year-old beauty of Roseau has captured the first ever Miss Cutie title outshining three other contestants at the Krazy Kokonuts on Sunday.

Jewele George also captured awards for best speech, best swimwear, best theme, best ball gown and Miss Photogenic.

Speaking to Dominica News Online, the vibrant beauty pageant winner said she was pleasantly surprised when she heard her name being announced as winner. According to her, preparing for the pageant was not hard since she had a lot of assistance from her mother and her chaperones.

“I enjoyed all of the rounds, I want to participate in the Carnival Princess Show in the future,” she said.

Makeup artists and organizer of the Miss Cutie pageant, Nicole Celaire, said that the show was held with the intention of making the contestants feel like princesses.

“It was an occasion for everyone to come out and have a good time, for parents to bring their children to play, it was basically a day for children to come out and have a good time and for the contestants, it was a chance for them to display their talent,” Celaire stated.

miss cutie1She added that the pageant was an “all glitz pageant” for girls between the ages of 5-7 years and was held during the summer as a means of providing some form of entertainment for students.

The pageant consisted of four rounds; introduction, speech, summer swimwear, theme and ball gown.

The contestants received back to school prizes, certificates, tiaras and wands, while trophies and sashes were awarded to the first and second runners-up plus the winner.

Sa-de’ra Magloire copped first runner up position and was also awarded the prize for Miss Amity, while Elie Pascal of Grandfond emerged second runner up.

Maellle Roberts also participated in the pageant.

I’m not sure what the organizers of this show was thinking, but this is appalling! TLC’s Toddlers & Tiara is not something we should be trying to emulate in any way. This show, in my opinion, is teaching our kids way to young that true beauty can only be seen on the outside and that your natural self is not beautiful. Don’t misunderstand, I have no issues with pageants. I just don’t think covering babies in make-up and weave is the best way to go. A swimwear round for 5-7 yr olds? What were you thinking! I understand that you wanted to give kids a way to express themselves but u fell short on this one. Shame on u parents for putting your girls through that!

you hit the nail on the head, no wonder so much happening to our children now a day. Children are grown up as they born. I totally agree. What are little girls doing with make up at all?
Some parents think that their children are supposed to do for them what they wished they could have done. Be careful parents ! There is a time for everything. Please let the children be CHILDREN. They are not women as yet. Give them a chance to grow up! VANITY, VANITY, VANITY.

All those commenting and condoning makeup and false hair on a baby (cause that is what she is still… an impressionable baby) you all should be ashamed. We re allowing our young girls to think that they have to put on makeup or false hair to be beautiful. We need to be teaching them to love and appreciate their natural God given hair. Let them know that the beauty inside is what really counts. At that tender age we should be promoting more wholesome activities to develop our reading and communicating skills.

I saw parts of a show called Toddlers and Tiaras and I was so disgusted by the fact that parents use their innocent children to live their own fantasies. Only to see the same mentality invade my people’s brain. Something to do for the summer? Whatever happen to good old summer school and camp. Teach these children morals and values. Mold their little minds with something educational!!

When they become spoilt, rebellious teenagers then we complain.

    August 28, 2013

makes me sick how they like to copy s from the Americans.I’m sure there is a cute, perhaps even beautiful child underneath all that mess and fakery. You want to be making the child proud of her natural self not making her feel that to be cute she needs to put on war paint and stick some other woman’s hair on her head. It’s totally RIDICULOUS.

  41. August 28, 2013

Being that Dominicans so like to follow fashion, why can’t they try to copy some of the other programs on tv, for example ‘TeenNews on Disney Youth Jeopardy on ABC etc instead of them watching too much of BET , TLC and all those programs where lazy people exploit their children just to make some fast money.

  42. August 28, 2013

I’m not in any way supporting a “Little Miss Cutie” wearing all that darn weave and face make-up. Leave all the make-up for teenagers and adults and just let the children be children. Nothing is more precious and beautiful than a little girl dressing up like a little princess with her beautiful dress and shoes. All that make up is just a no no….Don’t like it a bit

  43. Simple
    August 28, 2013

Why in the world would we want to expose our little girls to these things. I mean Dominica has so much to offer for these children. After all Tasha P said let the children play and let them laughter, teach them the golden rule. Apparently some of us don’t listen and then we blame everybody for our children’s future.

  44. Solo
    August 28, 2013

This is a horrible move and I’m very disappointed in the organizers and parents who subjected these innocent children to such nonsense. It reminds me of the show Toddlers and Tiaras in the US. Anyone who’s had the misfortune of seeing that show even once would share my sentiments. The children are so dramatic and behave like brats while their parents push and harass them into a world of pagents thus stealing from them the simple pleasures of childhood like laughter, fun and playing. Is this what we want for our Dominican girls? Fake hair, make-up, so much glitter, at the tender ages of 5 to 7? The natural progression from this will be mini skirts and tube tops because they’re “fashionable”. Then we’ll wonder why we can’t recognize or control them even before they become teenagers. Please parents, stop it and stop it now!

    • eLIxIr
      September 2, 2013

Funny thing is, these parents and persons involved take our comments as negative, instead of positive criticism. Instead of bettering it and understanding that this is not the way to go with our kids, they want to follow the American lifestyle……Let Americans mess up their own kids, why try to mess up yours willingly? lmao, at the end, we smart parents will be the ones laughing in the end.

Some people minds seem to be in a box. lol. Always quick to see the negative in something. Mind you, it is ok to play mommy and daddy unno. I never hear of parents telling their children NOT to play mommy and daddy but a one day event where they get to play and dress like little dolls is a problem? Children always try on their mommy’s things as fun, you think the children in the competition are walking around with makeup and weave everyday or the parents plan on having them do so all the time. Get a grip. We all know what the game mommy and daddy entails, that allu should mind and if allu doe want allu children to be a honey booboo then take away the computers and phones and stop let them watch the cartoons, some of which are not even children suitable cartoons, cut the cable too cus there are alot of rude shows playing during the day time. OR better yet, spend some real quality time with allu children instead of coming and judge what other people doing with theirs when you dunno half the story. this show looks interesting and i hope it on next year. i missed it this time but never again… you know why… because half of ya’ll that negative will NOT be there! and PLEASE! i want ya’ll to dislike my comment. hate it so it will even be hidden due to low comment rating. hahaha. hmmm. smh

Yes this thing is going to stay with them for the latter part of their life. Organiser please next year teach the young ones to have self esteem and hinging on the Almighty Father. This star thing and attention thing will siphon down later in life since they will believe that to draw attention to themselves, they must be in those kind of things. See what happened to this Cyrus child. Take note and learn from the demise of the many child actors who did not enjoy their childhood but was thrust into limelight. And what again the I thing (centred around me) is a dangerous thing. Let us not put the blood of our little ones on our shoulders. Let us teach to love one another and respect for authority. They are not to young to be taught the good moral values not the worldly things. Just saying this with love as well.

This pageant frenzy in Dominica is getting overboard. Unlike the Carnival princess show, this forcing children to be to grown before their time. The princess show allows for the children in more natural appearances. These children will become too egoistic too early!

Hypocrite about exposing our kids to dumb media?? we suck on the American lifestyle and call it entertainment? you are ridiculous my dear. This is not entertainment? this is on the way to child porn. Ignorance is really bliss in Dca, you have now proved it!

I actually was excited to see the title Miss Cutie because it is a wonderful way to get our kids involved. BUT>>>>>> Why the weave and all the make-up for such a young age? The make-up could be toned down and she could do without the badly done weave because she is A NATURAL BEAUTY!!!

The show organizers should state age appropriate standards and parents should ensure that these guidelines are enforced.

this is one of the reasons why I detest the show ‘toddlers and tiaras’ on tlc, I think that at such a young age young girls are being exploited and now sadly a similar pageant is being held in dominica. wow are we trying to copy America? we should be unique and create our own. too many pageants are going on. as if every month there is some kind of pageant taking place in dominica. isn’t there anything else to expose young ladies to? smh

    • August 28, 2013

They need to have more reading competition(once a month) at every grade level instead of weaving up and masking the faces of little girls ,making them look like drug addicts gone bad.

      August 28, 2013

Then when we create the monsters in our society, we blaming them again. There are too many other activity that these young ones can take part. Spelling bee competitions, reading competitions, Maths competitions, Poetry, Essay and the list goes on and on. Why try to destroy them at such an early age? Make them adults before their time. Dress them inappropriately for their age. Teach them that thru their body movements, they can attract the opposite sex. Act sexily. Parents and all of us let us repent of this. Just saying@!

For years Dominica has been living the life of a ‘follow fasion’…..no originality …..except for bouyon (and even that we have managed to mess up)…..we now have rappers (America), Soca artist(Trini) and now toddlers parading on stages in grown women’s wear!>> where have our good old discipline gone too?

that what u call beautiful ? We canot even see the real face of the little girl. by the way it is ridiculus… I prefer from far a sport day competition, when the kids runing, playing, jumping etc, that is the real beauty of our children.

Well if she is wearing adult makeup and adult hairdo, I guess we should expect her to behave like an adult too.The parents should make a reality check now or they will regret it later.

the devil is moving in on our youth this child should be learning about God not parading like a jezebel on stage infront of molesters and pedophlies, child porn is rampant all over the world and it is a fact that even in DOMINICA we have them too parent beware your young daughters a gems cherish them

You don’t need to dress up a child to attract perverts. They like children despite how they are dressed. Do you think that a child dressed like a `child’ will not attract the attention of a pervert? Come on! People are so ill-informed.

      • ???????????
        August 28, 2013

While anonymous, what you say is true but remember the young ones body are the temple of the Holy Ghost. They should be learning how to have their own self esteem based on their knowing the Lord and not by their bodies. Any reason as to justify is not of the Lord but that is the doubting tool that the enemy uses to destroy our people – excuses … nothing wrong with that … Your own words “Do you think that a child dressed like a `child’ will not attract the attention of a pervert? Come on! People are so ill-informed” all these are excuses which the evil one destroys our minds but to renew our mind, we have to know what the word of God says about us as well and before we justify just everything the world is doing, we must remember to find out if it pleases our Father and Creator and not just follow suit. Remember the world is under the influence of the “Evil One” and his job is to kill, Steal and destroy. Very subtle who will do battle with your mind that he will make thing downright wrong seem right to you. Just saying… I don’t thumbs up but I have to give the message.

People we need a Saviour!!! This little girl is naturally beautiful and should be allowed to grow in the beauty that God created her with.

Who ever made her up has no style and needs conselling (What were you trying to create)? Less is more.

The whole world is looking at this

let the children be children no man!

Dominica in that too now! Stupes. A 5-7 year old lil’ girl should not be exposed to this type of competition. She should be playing, reading story books, learning to bake or cook in the kitchen at home, riding bikes etc. Then we wonder why our young girls are becoming so vain.
