DNO, while on that calypso note Tarsha P has disappointed her many fans in New york City after weeks of advertisement with her name as one of the performers for the 35th anniversary of the mothers day show at the Brooklyn College; its time that our Dominican artiste move to the next level of professionalising the manner in which they treat and respond to invitations form overseas, its a minus for her missing out on opportunities to be on stage with the likes of David Rudder, Allison Hindes, Fayann, Bunji galie, and most of all to connect to the trinidadian promoters based in new york, not sure she can make up for that because there are lots of other trinidadian performers who the promoters would rather have on their list than someone who turned them off after an offer was made and accepted by her

Happy, as i know it an offer/invitation was extended was to Tarsha P, and the only reason for her to be on flyers all over New York of her performance on this 35th anniversary mothers day show is because she gave the promoters the assurance she will be available, can u immagine at the intermission time of the show one member of the organization gave a five minute excuse why Tarsha P could not show up, before responding did she not know that she was in college? did the promoters take it upon themselves to have her name on flyers and radio advertisement to lure the Dominicans living in the five boroughs of new york city? That cant be a good start for her, i can only wish her well and applaud her for advancing her intellectual base and Space by going to college

Simply watching calypsonians with a mike singing, backed up by music. Sadly, most of the patrons and lovers of the art form only care about the Sewo and refuse to listen to (not just hear) the good lyrics with commentaries about the social ills, immoral values, corruption, bad governance, abuses of all kinds as well as illegal acts committed especially by those in ‘High places of authority. That is not good enough. Irrespective of those good calypsos being song and heard every year, exhorting citizens to live as ‘Good citizens’ and to be fearless in denouncing corrupt practices, criminal acts continue to be committed. Selfishness, greed, nepotism, partisan politics have taken over our lives. Now it is becoming worse.

We hear now of firebombing of persons homes and attempts at assassinations (by allegedly paid assassins or arsonists) of our fellow men and women during Christmas season, a time of peace and love. Women, men and child abuses ongoing and on the rise. Lying, cheating, stealing are accepted in some circles.

Frankly calypso is not only about entertainment and sewo, but conscious lyrics, well composed calypsos should encourage all of us Dominicans to put some water in our wine, turn over a new leaf, be fearless, love each other and our country much more and to speak out against corrupt practices for the benefit of our beloved Dominica and its people. If we LISTEN attentively to the many good calypsos and take the necessary positive actions to correct the ills in our society, certainly, Dominica would be on a better path of social, cultural, political and economic development. It would be a WIN-WIN situation for all. Congrats to all the calypsonians for their efforts. Looking forward to a massive show.
