Controversial dancehall artiste, Tommy Lee Sparta, who generated much discussion after he was denied entry into Dominica recently, will not be leaving Jamaica soon as authorities on the island have seized his travel documents.

Tommy Lee made his first court appearance last week after he was charged with breaching Jamaica’s Anti-Lottery Act, known as the Lottery Scam.

During the proceedings he was stripped of all travel documents and all ports in Jamaica were notified that he should not leave the island.

He was released on JA$400,000 bond and is expected to return to court on April 3.

Tommy Lee created waves in Dominica when he was not allowed to enter the island for a concert scheduled to take place in Portsmouth.

He was subsequently arrested and deported.

His appearance at the concert was stiffly opposed by members of the local religious community.

The government said he was not allowed into the island in the interest of public safety.

Organizers of the concert have since said they will take the matter to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) for damages.

regarding the whole situation if the promotors felt that he was not welcome in dominica they should have cancel the concert in the first place.instead of allowing him to come and be arrested.i am a jamaican and i have been to da many a times and enjoy myself.it hurts me to think of us fighting among ourselves iput the full blame on the promotors they should pay for what happen

Tommy Lee flew to Dominica on a private jet. Was that to avoid the Jamaican authorities who were investigating him? I am wondering why did they allow him to leave Jamaica in the first place.
Let us see what will happen to the cases which were filed with the UN and then the CCJ. Considering his reputation, deportation and now charges, you want to bet that they will be thrown out of those Courts?

Due to these turn of events, is now charged for a lottery scam, his passport seized, not allowed to leave the country and has to pay JA $400,000, he cannot be happy and at peace.
You call someone as this happy and at peace? Use your common sense. The man is far from being happy and peaceful. He is in big trouble. Who will get him out of this one? Not the UN, the CCJ and his general supporters. I think his goose is cooked.

It is a humiliating to Dominicans that the UWP and it colleges who bash the Labour Government for the deportation of Tommy Lee. What would Dominica come to if these people were made to run the affairs of the country GOD HELP US

All Dominicans should use their discretion and learn from these matters.

    • uhhhhh
      March 12, 2014

The UWP never bashed anyone for the deportation of Tommy Lee. They would have taken the same proceedings to prevent tommy lee from coming into the country. UWP stand on the issue was in the clarity. They felt the government did not properly clarify and pass on information in proper manner. That was their take on the issue. On both sides of the spectrum, Tommy Lee would have been prevented from entering into Dominica.

      March 11, 2014

When did the UWP say he should not have been deported? They said it should have been dealt with in a more professional manner, at-least that’s what I heard and read.

Can you please direct me to the evidence supporting your claim that the UWP said he should not have been deported?

It boils down to that the promoters knew the atmosphere in D/ca by the majority and should have told him not to come. Of course, if they did, Tommy Lee would have charged them with breach of contract, for the loss of funds. Therefore, they took their chances and allowed him to fly to D/ca.

is that your ability of or level of intellect? I asked a simple question; where and when did UWP say the gov should not have deported tommy lee? Because of politics Dominicans tend to misrepresent facts deliberately – I don’t know what it is with you all but spreading rumours and lies isn’t the way to go about justifying anything.

Again, when or where did UWP say Tommy Lee should not be deported?

Liberty – freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice.

Tyranny – arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.

People should have the right to choose what music they want to listen to, what they want to wear and how they want to live. Dominica is a tyrannical country.

    • crosscountry
      March 11, 2014

At one time it was not allowed to wear locks to school. And children of other religions had to say the Hail Mary. When you get pregnant, you lose your job. If you had a badtard child you could not det a job. Black man was against black man, you had to be white. The battle still continues. The caribbean is a melting pot.

Every country has a right to refuse any person with or without visa at it’s discretion . Ask how many fellow Dominicans have been refused entries to neighbouring islands and other countries . Does anyone care or protest against it ? Grow up Dominicans and stop acting foolish and ignorant . Give our country the respect and support it needs and protest over real values and concerns of your fellow Dominicans . Not over citizens of a country who dismiss us as small island people .

i height of intelligence is not the ability to search through the dictionary and give the definition of words and confuse those who do not know the meaning, when you say that Dominica is a tyranny, which one of your rights have they taken from you ? i pray to GOD that the days when music was screened before putting it on the air waves, there was a time not even our local calypso would make it to the air waves because of one F word and it was called protecting our country and now you call Dominica a tyranny be cause the are looking out for the welfare of our country is this what you call intelligent

One is in Domiinca, the other is in his homeland, Jamaica. They are not related but they both got him in hot water with the D/can Law and the J/can Law.
Being deported from D/ca, he can never return.
His travel documents are seized and he cannot leave J/ca, his country and probably never will.
Both are for infractions. One for defying immigration authorities. The other for illegally being involved in a lottery scam. No comparison? Not one and the same? Both are crimes against these countries.States.
