Triple Kay International to rock at Carnival Opening Parade

Revelers following Triple Kay at Carnival last year

As a form of giving back to its fans, popular band ‘Triple Kay International’ has decided to provide live entertainment during the 2016 Carnival Opening Parade slated for Saturday, January 16.

Just this week organizers of Carnival announced that there will be no live bands, only Hi-Fi, will be on the road during the opening parade due financial constraints.

Following that statement, some members of the public expressed disappointment on that decision, mainly on social media.

In fact, some even planned on boycotting the parade.

However in an effort to satisfy its fans “sewo tastebuds,” the band announced on its Facebook page that they will be performing during the parade.

The band stated that it will be performing free of costs but the Government of Dominica will be taking care of ‘inescapable costs’ associated with the performance.

“As is customary over the past decade, your Triple Kay Band spares no effort in ensuring that your “sewo tastebuds” are satisfied while we also try to give back tangibly to society. After listening to the plight of the organizing committee, Triple Kay Band has decided to play for free just for you the fans, however, the inescapable costs associated will be taken care of by the Government of Dominica,” the band said.

The statement also explained that annually the band performs at its own cost “at the National Carnival Opening parade, Jouvert Morning, Carnival Monday night, Carnival Tuesday night and on Community Day of service among many other events.”

It explained that each of these events cost an unbelievable amount of money which has to get subsidized either through the profits of past events or deposits from future events.

It said that last year the country was hit by Tropical Storm Erika, which flatlined the majority of economic activity for the rest of the year.

“Notwithstanding, we made the difficult sacrifices that ensured we came out on the road for Independence because of our love of country and you the fans,” the statement said. “Again because of you the fans, in early January 2016 we began preparations to participate in the Grand National Carnival Opening Parade but these plans were set aside as we were informed by the DFC that the usual ‘Big Truck Jam’ which takes place after the Opening ceremony may no longer be taking place due to budgetary constraints. This ‘Big Truck Jam’ has customarily been the event that subsidizes us to be on the road, and after spending so much during independence to be on the road we were just unable to fund our attendance on the road for the Opening Parade this year.”

However, “because of the cries of you, our fans and the wider public, persons like the Minister of Tourism, The DDA boss, DFC Executives and others who hold the power have asked Your Triple Kay Band to be part of the Opening Parade as the last band standing.”

The band said it has given back to the community at a number of events in the past.

“On occasion after occasion we toil tirelessly to keep our culture and the sanity of our society alive by doing many ‘Give Back’ events,” the statement said.

The band thanked the fans for making it known that they wanted the presence of ‘Triple Kay International’ on the road, “and we will continue to do whatever it takes to satisfy your thirst for your Bouyon Band.”

The band said it will be on the road from 3:00 pm, powered by the ‘earth shattering,’ GX Sounds, and immediately after the Opening Parade, there will be an ‘after party’ at the Pottersville Savannah featuring XS Groove and Asa Bantan.

I smell a rotten rat .The Tripple K band will be playing for free but the Government will meet the inescapable cost towards the event can Emile and Mr Robert Tonge explain why is there so much Byass towards WCK Robbie should know that Keith and WCK has in the past gave more to the dominican fans that the KKK that they are now talking about and Emile Depooter has a big part to play in this act because he is also on the board of the DFC ,for two years in a row they have left off WCK from the WCMF and year before only one band could not participate in the Festival they asked WCK to perform .
Now over the past years WCK used to perform at the Peebles Park, and the Bus Terminal between the two bridges .But i know that my Nephew Keith Goddard has a very strong head and has kept on the mantle of WCK i say koudos to him and long live…

Don’t you understand. Emile needs business from govt. for his other business as well. This is a smart investment and good publicity for him.

after carefully reading this article, something doesn’t seem right to me. So early this week the committee said there will be no live bands, now at the start of this article triple say they will go on the streets because of the fans, then lower down they said apart from the fans, the minister of tourism, the dda and the festivals commission have asked triple kay to be the last band standing. I smell a rat , a very big RAT. this is very unfair to the other bands. If the authority says no live bands, then there should be no live bands. this is why we cannot be taken seriously in this country.

What is the reason for no live bands? I swear it was said that it would be nice if the bands did it for free for their fans.

You are quite right. Triple K tongue too long. If the government made a deal with them to cover their operating costs to play, then that should have been kept between the two parties. According to Young Bull, zor toh emmay parlez! Now there is bad blood! Dominica always have a ro-ro be it illness, disaster, party.
      Chill my people. Keep Calm.

For the passengers’ sake I hope there is no cruise ship at the bayfront on saturday. That is going to be mayhem.

    • CarnivalLover
      January 15, 2016

I don’t see why it will be mayhem. The tourists will just join in the fun. I just hope the revelers keep their cool and there are no unbecoming incidents. Such street parties are common in other countries and are usually uneventful. Why should Dominica be any different, aren’t we supposed to be hospitable and friendly people or has politics tarnished this once coveted Dominican trait?

“the inescapable costs associated will be taken care off by the Government of Dominica” so the Government of Dominica can meet the cost associated to being on the road for Triple K but would not meet the cost as it relates to the WCK BAND……….Why are so many out to kill WCK band so nuh!!! NO CK NO CARNIVAL

hmmmm…satan knows how to make his nasty self present. The hi-fi was the best in terms of violence. I am not a Carnival person but ……….TripleK……..Festival Commission say no thanks! Stick with your plan.

oh shut up!! nothing is ever good enuf for u ‘holier than thou’ kinda pple. whether is steel pan they have on the road and pple want to act wild, they will. violence doesnt come because of a band – its the pple and their mentally.

enough of our regular celebrations have changed vastly because of TS Erica. if we continue to let that shadow our celebrations, change up our normal, what r we gonna be left with? im not particularly a huge fan of triple but give jack his jacket. when no other band/pple can step up, triple k does. if is one time ill defend them its times like now. everything is nt for everybody, but thanks to triple k for allowing the few diasporas, and most of the party goers of Dominica to enjoy the independence season. and another thank u in advance for beating the odds n being on road tomoro. i for one planned to stay hm, but now there’s a reason for me to come out n join in the celebration. hi-fi wld not cut it for me.

do some reading my friend , some deep searching and reading and you will see how the drum machine can be manifested evil. read African history about beating of the drums and the invocation of both good and bad spirits.

      • dhestini
        January 15, 2016

yesss @zandoli girl. because triple k is the only band that beat drums n use drum machine right? how many jams with dj’s that have come to hault, or clubs that put pple outside while playing their own selection of music? like i said, its not the band that cause pple to fight. pple fight because they want to fight. and no matter what thats playing, if they want to fight THEY WILL FIGHT. i’ve seen too many fights broke over danchall music. so excuse u.

now back to my original stance. fr since i’ve been participating in carnival there have always been a live band on the road. putting hi-fi this yr wld break the carnival spirit. whether politics or whatever force is behind only kkk being on the road, thats another story. coming fr a revellers mind space, i’m happy they changed their minds bout that hi-fi thing. so kudos to kkk and the the carnival celebrations begin
