WCMF 2013 to be officially launched

WCMF LogoIt is expected that the line up, or at least part of it, for the 17th Annual World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) will be announced when the official launch of the event takes place on Monday 29th July, 2013.

The event is presented by the Government of Dominica alongside Headline Partner, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and Gold Partner ‘Digicel’.

According to the Dominica Festivals Committee, the launch “will highlight activities surrounding the three nights of pulsating rhythms and most importantly bring closure to the long anticipated questions asked regarding this year’s line up.”

The World Creole Music Festival will be held from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th October 2013 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Roseau.  World renowned performers hailing from Martinique, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Trinidad, Paris, Nigeria and Dominica will form part of this year’s line up and will be officially presented at the launch.

“This year’s Festival plans to be truly bigger and better as we incorporate the 35th celebration of Dominica’s Independence into the theme for the Festival.  We have a solid team who is already working hard at ensuring that the Festival will be a memorable one for patrons,” says Chairman of the Dominica Festivals Committee and Director of Tourism, Colin Piper.

Invitees to the official launch include government officials, sponsors and other key stake holders of the festival.

Minister for tourism , Ian Douglas, DDA Chairman Benoit Bardouille and DFC Chairman Colin Piper and a representative of Gold Partner, Digicel are expected to deliver addresses at the function to be held from 6.00 pm at the Krazy Koconuts.

The Official Launch will be broadcast live via Partners Marpin 2k4, Kairi FM Radio, and SAT Telecommunications. Patrons can also log on to the World Creole Music Festival website – www.wcmfdominica.com  for live streaming of the event on July 29th

Why so much jamaican influence? They have their sunplash and not one dominican artist ever invited. Let’s stick to our Creole music. I used to travel with a big contingent to Creole fest but we stopped- too much foreign influence. When we come home for Creole fest, we want to see and experience Creole not other things. You mean groovers, exile kassav and others cannot do the job? Common man!

If you dont put any reggae artists in the park and you put groovers and kassav and thm the park will have less than 100 people. You have to put big time artist to attract a big crowd.
