As the 20th annual World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) draws closer, the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) has announced three new sponsors on board to assist in the promotion and proper execution of the popular event.
At a press conference on Wednesday morning, state-owned DBS Radio, First Domestic Insurance Company (FDIC), and Pirates Ltd. pledged their support with over $30,000 in kind, $1.7-million in insurance coverage, and beverages at a value of $10,000.00 respectively.
Acting General Manager of DBS Radio, Curtis Matthew, stated that as a silver sponsor to the WCMF, DBS is delighted to be a partner with the DFC.
“As the national broadcaster we have a responsibility to promote and develop the Creole culture and that is why we have been there from the inception of the festival,” he said.
Matthew added that with this contribution in kind, some DFC personnel will be on the station’s ‘Talking Point’ and on the ‘Experience Creole’ talk show further promoting the festival.
Representative of FDIC, Melissa Darroux, also expressed delight on behalf of the company at the strong support that it is providing.
“The World Creole Music Festival is Dominica’s very own and has continued to evolve over the past 20 years. The Tonge Group of Companies, which is also Dominica’s very own, is delighted to partner with the Dominica Festivals Commission particularly through First Domestic Insurance Ltd.,” Darroux said.
According to her, the insurance coverage lends to the company’s goal of promoting security and peace of mind among patrons.
“We will continue to partner with the DFC and are committed to the success of the festival as it goes into its twentieth year,” she remarked.
Meanwhile Manager/Owner of Pirates Ltd. Frederic Cernota, stated it is a pleasure to be part of the WCMF.
“This is a real pleasure and honour, I would say, every year to deal with the DFC and all the team of DFC. Our little company is making an effort every year to do and participate as much as possible. This year, I am sure this is going to be a very big year and a very big festival for everybody,” he remarked.
The 20th edition of WCMF is slated for October 27-29.
OK Great!!! Congrats to the DFC and WCMF. More Sponsors means more money to spend to bring down great artists and of course FREE complimentary tickets for DBS Radio, First Domestic Insurance and Pirates Limited.

Does that mean that DBS actually make a profit because that money has to come from some where. Or have they been “persuaded”, arm twisted by the powers that be because Val tell them they are short on budget….again? You cannot tell me that event is properly run if you still have to scrap around like that so short before it is to take place. Everything is vai ki vai in this place. I’m fed up with such dilettanets.
The festival should be cancelled,what profits do all make each year is a failure,plust the devastation througout the caribbean,this should be cancelled immediately,we are all trying to help each other now.Cancel immediately,
You don’t measure the success or profitability of the WCMF in gate receipts. But rather the revenue that pours into the economy as a result. And the long term benefit of promotion of the country to future and potential return visitors.
That’s the only reason governments/countries get involved in these “expensive” extravaganzas.
Crap, if that is so there must be at least reliable figures to proof that. If that is not the case you are saying that govt must subsidise these events so private business can make a profit,? Why should poor people of Dominica be asked to do that? I never heard such nonsense in all my life.

You guys need to think outside of the box. The monies that DFC gonnna make some can be allocated to send to different parts of the caribbean that was affected by Irma. Dfc does not need to make a profit. They are promoting the country and bringing in visitors
