As Antigua & Barbuda prepares to celebrate its emancipation festivities, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is giving Carnival aficionados from around the Caribbean the chance to live the excitement and revelry of Antigua’s Carnival, The Caribbean’s Greatest Summer Festival, through a number of regional promotions that will allow participants to win trips to Antigua & Barbuda for Carnival.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Carnival celebrations run from July 25 – August 4, 2015, and winners of the Tourism Authority’s ongoing promotions, will be flown to Antigua to jump and jam in the Carnival Monday and Tuesday celebrations on August 3 and 4.

The ‘Win a Trip to Antigua Carnival’ promotion is open to all regional participants, who have until 5:00 p.m. on July 24, to ‘LIKE’ the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Facebook Page, and post a comment stating, ‘Why they love Antigua’s Carnival’, for the chance to win the trip for two.

The promotion is a collaboration of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority and its strategic partner, LIAT – The Caribbean Airline. It is being promoted via the Caribbean Media Corporation, which airs within 26 regional territories, as well as on all Antigua & Barbuda’s social media channels.

Regional visitors also have a second chance to win a trip to experience Antigua’s Carnival with LIAT’s – ‘Ultimate Carnival Promotion’. Participants have to post selfies from the CPL matches to LIAT’s Facebook page for a chance to win a trip to three regional Carnivals, including Antigua and Barbuda’s Carnival. The competition ends July 26, 2015.

“Antigua and Barbuda’s Carnival is a vibrant cultural celebration, with iron bands, stilt-walkers, pageantry, mas, music and revelry, providing a unique spectacle to appeal to our carnival-loving Caribbean neighbours. We are excited to give persons the opportunity to visit and engage in our 2015 festivities, so that they will be sure to return for our Grand 60th Carnival Celebrations in 2016”, said the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s Marketing Manager, Charmaine Spencer.

“The social media promotions are part of the destination’s marketing strategy to engage with visitors in innovative ways, to create a buzz around Antigua & Barbuda’s Carnival, and to grow regional business to the destination, especially during the slower summer months.”

The winners of the regional promotions will actively participate in the Carnival celebrations by playing Mas with Myst Carnival Mas troupe and attending various carnival shows. Winners will also experience some of the destination’s tourism product through island tours and staying at the contemporary accommodations of the Sugar Ridge hotel.

Its 2018, are the ladies still dancing? Will they rebuild Barbuda? Given that Barbuda is community owned, this makes it similar to a reserve in Canada where community ownership inhibits socio-economic development. The government of Antigua and Barbuda should take ownership of the island of Barbuda through expropriation of all land. Create a Barbuda socio-economic development corporation where 50% of the shares are owned by the government and the other 50% is directly owned and split evenly among all the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda. The corporation should then engage in both land development and economic development through the sale of real-estate and business development. People who lived are Barbuda would be given residential property and a house as well as one commercial property for a business.
