“Young Bull” drops first song for calypso season

It is already burning the airwaves and being enjoyed by many as the calypso season begins to heat up.

It is Young Bull’s first song for the season called “Pastor Bull.”

Young Bull, whose real name is Val Cuffy, told Dominica News Online that the song actually began taking shape last year after Showdown Mas Camp.

He said soon after the show songwriter, Pat Aaron called him and said he already had a song for 2015.

“So I asked him what would that be and he said you are going to be a pastor,” Cuffy explained.

He stated that from there the song began taking shape but when general election was called for December 2014 more issues surfaced and its momentum gathered pace.

“It (the general election) also helped in bringing forward a lot of the issues that the people are still talking about and that is where the song originated from,” he said.

Cuffy said the song examines the consciousness and understanding of politicians after elections, how they dealt with it and “the role of a pastor when they come to confess…”

He said more should be expected of him as the calypso season continues.

“This is my first song and I am also working on a Bouyon,” he remarked. “Then there will be another calypso.”

Cuffy is hoping to make it to the calypso final this year.

“The last time I made the final was in 2003 and that was a very long time ago,” he noted, adding that if he makes it to the final, fans can expect “the greatest show.”

Pastor Bull was written by Pat Aaron and was arranged and produced by Krishna ‘Dada’ Lawrence.

This is seriously lacking. Was unable to capture my attention. I quit listening after the first verse and a line of the chorus. Not up to par, better luck next time!

The role of the pastor when they come to confess . . .? What do you mean by that? Making a song on that too? Watch your words and keep it clean. I, for one will not listen to it.
Do not bring down the wrath of God on you and also those who help you to write and sing this song. If you think it will be pleasing to some people, it will not be with God. He is not mocked. If you are referring to priests, his consecrated priests are not mocked; not even in jest and in a calypso song.
Know this, “No one heals himself by hurting others.”

What about the mockery you upheld when skerrit was called Jesus. Young Bull needs to add another verse and iinclude your name in the last line.

Stop talking googaga. You back again with your nonsense. I believe you really love the calypso, but it is the truth that is offending and killing you. You need to go to Bull’s Eye for your tablets or go and listen to Elton John and Boy George music.

PS: The both tents are not far from each other, and in highly populated area. Yet the people don’t show up in big numbers. I come far and attend all tents. Support the art form people. Get in the spirit of carnival. it is a short period.

I agree pastor bull. The chorus can stand a chance, but lyrical content is definitely missing.. A bit of a Hubble I must say… If Pat wrote this well there is much to look forward to, wheel and come again bully bull, let’s have a more strategic body on the skeleton.. Not being critical in a harmful way, but recognising the fact that it is missing a lot of strategical content..

    A goodwill fan

‘Young bull’. This calypso by you sound no different from your previous attempts. Lame, mediocre, boring. But who am I to criticize, Dominicans it seems are easily satisfied and will settle for mediocrity. Hence when the majority of our artists perform live it’s a total embarrassment, with very little interaction with the audience, sounding and looking very amateuris . Personally, i think that we should have a music school in order for upcoming musicians to improve their wrting and musical abilities.

i partially agree with your comment. bull should be differentiated from the rest. he is an entertainer.
but the sound is recycled tho. but its a good track.

But….you have hit the nail on the head when you speak of no interaction with crowd.

      at WCMF for example, ….smh.

Where is Dominica really going? like really? are we good at anything….

You think prayers can help a man who spends his life and energies in lies and crimes. I hope Rev. pastor Bull can cast out demons. He has his work cut out for him. Remember, everything the dictator touches gets contaminated. The man should not be so selfish, by asking pasrtor B to pray for him only, he must include his female inmate and his cronies.

Since the inception of calypso we see calypsonians in the likes of the mighty Sparrow, Chalkdust, Lord Tokyo and many others raise the consciousness of the people with songs that were political in nature but very relevant for the times. Today, I applaud Pastor Bull as he continues to keep the issues fresh in the minds of the people, yet making it so entertaining.
Keep on doing what you are doing. Great talent.

I think before you are try to debase Dice (6 time KING) and Young Bull (established businessman/calypso singer/writer) you should do this.
      1. Your name says Dominica UK meaning you may be a Dominican living in the UK then please make an effort to take advantage of the UK learning institutions and facilities to help make DA proud like how these two gentlemen are trying to do.
      * Niether is wrong the word is neither
      * If you saying tongue is too long it is “too” not “to”
      * I used to like not “I use to like”
