Young Dominican talent featured on Starsha’s new single “Colours”

AGSelectPR, Roseau, Monday 17th July 2017: A group of young Dominican musicians have combined their creative talents on “Colours,” the latest release from Soca/Bouyoun artist Marsha ‘Starsha’ Laurent featuring Wayne ‘Mr. Benji N2O” Benjamin of the Triple Kay Band.

Produced by A Rady “MASKMAN” Moses of Sonar Art Productions and mixed and mastered by Kendell Laurent at his Music Box Studios, the song was written by Starsha, Sheldon “De Professor” Alfred, Shammah Laurent, Wayne Mr. Benji N2O, Kharlen Silva (Kharlen Jervier) and TME (Tridel Mandie Edwin).

The song also features back-up vocals by Starsha and Triple Kay members Jeoffrey Joseph and Jason Joseph.

Starsha, a native of Layou, is excited to be joining forces with other young musicians to create this song.

“Working with other peoples means more ideas and more contributions. I want my music to be known all around the Region and the world, so sharing is not something that intimidates me,” she stated.

“If people love the song, we all benefit, so why not?” adds Starsha.

According to her, the song came together after her manager Edwin approached Moses about creating a Bouyon beat to go with the sample played at the beginning of and throughout the song.

“The first person to write was Shammah. He had posted on Facebook that he was a great songwriter and challenged other local artists to work with him and so Tridel took him up, on the challenge” she laughs in recollection.

“Then I added more ideas to what he wrote and Tridel and Kharlen made some edits. Benji heard what we were doing in the studio and he immediately freestyled his part; and seeing as we have a good relationship with Triple Kay Band, it was easy to get the band drummer Froggy and keyboardist Jeoffry to come on board with the background vocals. Kendell produces all the band’s music and we were in the middle of working on another song “Never Fete Alone” which we halted production on, to work on “Colours.” Everything just flowed and it was a great experience,” she continued.

Starsha says she is open to working with songwriters and encourages other acts to do the same.

“It’s great to be a singer songwriter as I am but being open to ideas from other people mean you have twice as much or triple the creative energy to put in a song. It might not work for everyone but I encourage other local acts to embrace this approach.”

Edwin, who is also co-owner of 365music.co, a website which promotes local music, says this is the direction that Dominican acts should embrace and adopt if they have not already.

“Right now the song is the most important thing. If it means three, four, five persons working together to make a hit, then it’s the way to go.”

He adds that his platform is available to all local acts who want to promote their songs, “Once they have written their song, they can submit it to the website for anyone from around the world to enjoy. “Colours” is one of several songs currently available on the site for free download.”

The release of “Colours” comes at the start of the Summer festive season and Starsha has already performed the song at Carib Hype 246. Due to a premature end to the Color Me Fete Vol 3, she was unable to perform, however fans can look forward to Starsha performing at the Traffic Lights event at the Strip in Loubiere come Saturday July 29th.

“We want as many Dominicans as possible to come out and support the vibes, says Starsha. “It’s all about the unity vibes. That’s what we want to promote and we look forward to Dominicans from all walks of life coming together through music.”
