Dominicans are being encouraged to take measures during this hurricane season to ensure that they have adequate drinking water.
Customer Service and Human Resource Manager at the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO), Gwennie Dickson says proper storage and sanitation is essential.
“During the hurricane season we always encourage persons to have adequate storage because there are times when the turbidity level is very high and we have to shut down the system. So we should have to ensure that they have water stored for their household use,” she said.
She said person should ensure that they boil water before drinking, especially if it appears turbid.
DWASCO needs to have a better filtration process in place to reduce the dirt and microorganisms coming through the pipelines into customers homes.
Why doesn’t Dowasco practice water storage during the hurricane season as well, so that they can supply their customers with clean water during storms?
