The Finland government is giving EC$54, 000 to the Dominica Sea Turtle Conservation Association.
Pasi Patokallio, Special representative of the minister of foreign affairs to Finland, made the revelation Monday.
Ocean management is among matters up for discussion as a Finland delegation tours the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (O.E.C.S) and according to Patokallio, the preservation of Dominica’s sea turtle population is very significant.
“These are endangered animal and they need our protection. It’s good for your economy because eco tourism is something which should very important in Dominica, said Patokallio.
The donation follows a proposal from the DOMSETCO in March.
The funds will go towards allowances beach patrollers allowances, promotion and education about turtle conservation and equipment.
