Dominica’s Hike Fest was among ‘fun festivals’ for the month of May chosen by Canadian newspaper the Winipeg Sun.

On Saturday the newspaper featured a list of destinations with festivals that would make May a merry month.

Dominica was described as an “island paradise” and the description for Hike Fest is as follows:

“Hike or groove to some great home-grown island music on the small Caribbean isle of Dominica. Renowned for its natural beauty, tourists luxuriate in unspoilt nature and authentic culture. Join Hike Fest on May 5, 19 or 26, the best way to explore the island along sections of the Caribbean’s only long-distance hiking trail. If grooving is more your style, music fans will gather at Fort Shirley in Dominica’s Cabrits National Park for a Jazz ‘N Creole festival on May 27, featuring local jazz artists and international acts.”

Hike Fest 2012 is is divided into three sections: River Hike, Cross Country Hike and Beach Hike.

River Hike (May 5) is on segment 5 of the Waitukubuli Nature Trail (WNT) from  Pond Casse to Castle Bruce, ending at Castle Bruce playing field.

Cross Country Hike (May 19) will take place on segments 10 and 11 of the WNT and begins at Colihaut Heights, ending in Picard.

Beach Hike (May 26) begins on the trail behind Eden Estate and ends at Londonderry.

Got a bad feeling I will be reading stories on here about people getting robbed and raped around the time of hike fest, hope there is at-least some measures of security provided. Otherwise, hide your kids, hide your wives and hide your husbands.

A wonderful addition to our tourism product this is. Dominica is naturally endowed with lots of potential for exploration. We need to recognize and appreciate, and resolve to dedicating our time, talents and creativity to make our land the heaven on earth that it could really be.

    God bless Dominica. Seriously!!
