MIAMI, CMC – Hurricane Danielle moved closer towards the Leeward Islands on Wednesday as another storm formed in the Eastern Atlantic.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said that Danielle was now 685 miles east northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and was packing winds of 85 miles per hour.
The NHC said that Danielle, a Category One storm, was located at latitude 21.2 north, longitude 53.1 west and was moving towards the northwest at 17 miles per hour.
It said that while the hurricane posed no immediate threat to land at this time, slow strengthening is possible over the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the fifth tropical storm for the 2010 hurricane season formed in the Eastern Atlantic and was located 520 miles of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands.
The storm, named Earl, had sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and was located latitude 14.4 north longitude 32.2 west.
“Earl is moving toward the west near 16 miles per hour. This motion is expected to continue during the next two days keeping the cyclone over the waters of the Tropical Atlantic.
The NHC said that “some strengthening is expected over the next 48 hours and that “Earl could become a hurricane by Friday”.
