Fourteen finalists were selected to compete in the fourth edition of the National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) sponsored Cadence-lypso competition, to be held at the Newtown Savannah on November 2nd.

They will be going up against reigning NCCU Cadence-lypso monarch Anton Joseph, who will be defending his title.

In an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) Coordinator of the competition, Dexter Ducreay said the finalists were chosen from a field of 39 entrants at an audition held at the NCCU board room on Saturday.

“We had a great audition on Saturday, we have some great songs. It’s going to be difficult for the judges to pick the winners of that show,” he said. “The show is coming to its own where you have the finalists mixing some pop into the cadence, we also have some bouyon being mixed into the cadence, so that is interesting for us and we are excited about it…”

He encourages patrons to turn out in large numbers, “to see what the organizers have to offer” at the competition.

Meantime, Ducreay stated that organizers have also added a ‘Band Champ’ during which five bands will compete after the finalists perform.

The bands for that event, he said, have not yet been released. However he noted that The First Serenade Band, last year’s winner, will be defending their title.

The list of finalists and their songs for the competition are:

Janet Azouz – Beat of My Heart,
Bernard Jude – Sis Pied,
Jude Delauney – L’Amerique
Cletus Abraham – Wrong & Strong
Chris Slyvester – Mal Twavai
Dexter Derose Peltier – Eating Cyatt
Delma Daniel – Tout Se Mem
Charles Leatham – Creole Dou Dou
Alesha Ducreay – Ki Mako Sa
Rhamadine Phillip – Fait Bien Pas Mal
Shirley Charles – Education Nou Vle
Pierre Labassiere – Contante
Steve Williams – Jour Badinee Mwen
Royer Anselm – Work for A Better Tomorrow

The show is expected to begin at 8:00 pm and tickets cost $50 in advance and $60 at the gate.
