ITSS principal Shirley Samuel receives cheque from FFI Marketing Officer Lennan Matthew

KFC thru franchise holder Fine Foods Inc contributed a Green House to the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School Agricultural program on Thursday June 5th, 2014

This donation will support the schools Agricultural program, whichpromotes Agriculture and Agricultural Science among students. It will also serve to generate interest among our young people who will see the potential of agriculture as a career and viable business.  It is aimed at also assisting the school in raising much-neededfunds to help meet daily running cost and to provide more for the students.

Green House technology is now an integral part of modern agriculture and it is imperative that we expose our future farmers to these methods says Lennan Matthew, Marketing Officer at Fine Foods Inc

Fine Foods Inc takes pleasure in helping those who demonstrate the willingness to help themselves and recognize the effort put in the agricultural program by the students and teachers of ITSS.

Nice gesture. I am in agreement with the young being taught the importance of agriculture.

I hope that “Fine Foods” (oh, the irony of that name!) will be contributing to the vastly increased cost of medical care for Dominicans who regularly consume KFC. Already, we are seeing a massive increase in obesity in Dominica, thanks to KFC and other processed foods and the future healthcare cost to the island will be insurmountable.

Garcon, last time I checked this country was still a democracy where people can make free choices. You really don’t have to eat KFC if you don’t want to, you know. Govt. don’t have a law saying you must eat it., You make a sweeping statement that is not supported by data, so don’t blame KFC but hold those responsible who are responsible for their own free actions and chose to eat fast- & processed food. They are responsible for their health too. (…is not only KFC you know!

It’s sad that people like you embrace the very worst things that America has to offer.

Angel, you should never assume! I do not embrace KFC, Mc’Donald or any other fast food but I do embrace the principle of freedom of choice.

Personally, I prefer a red house. I do not like the colour green.

The government needs to borrow a page from FKC. That $500K they gave to catholic church to buy votes and further divide our nation, would be better served if they had donated it to schools or farmers. But to single out one church to give this much money to is just his way of trying to divide our religious body because other churches are just going to attack the Catholic Church and bishop.

Such initiatives are very useful and should be applauded. Business giving something back to the community and also helping themselves and the country in the process. Imagine for instance, we could grow all the green peppers Fine Foods imports today, thereby saving the country foreign exchange, shorten the transport time to market, create local jobs, teach skills and last but not least improve the standards of agricultural production. Such pragmatic assistance is preferable at all times to simple handing over money. Well done.
