Agricultural student at the Dominica State College (DSC) 17 year old Denssy James, is now better placed financially, to achieve his goal of becoming a model farmer.

That’s because  James has received the first ever Robert Elford Henry Agriculture Scholarship, valued at close to EC$17,000, from the  Dominica Agricultural and Development Bank’s (DAIDB)

The award was presented at the bank’s 21st Annual General Meeting which was held on Wednesday 27th November, 2013, at the Atlantique View Resort and Spa.

James was awarded for being an A student and along with the scholarship, received a laptop to better facilitate his studies.

In his brief speech, James expressed his gratitude to the AID Bank, “for their wisdom, foresight, selflessness in identifying the need to offer this awesome opportunity to a deserving young student.”

He also vowed to the family, relatives and friends that he will endeavour to follow in the footsteps of the late Elford Henry who had been a prominent farmer for many years.

“I promise to make you proud and I will look forward to the day when all of you will visit me at my modeled farm at the village of Delices,” he stated.

The scholarship provides a total of EC$ 16,700.00 to the young student over over a two year academic span.

It will cover tuition and academic costs, books, transportation and other incidentals, annually.

James is interested in farming and veterinary medicine and was selected from a short list of three other competitors. A total of six applicants were received for this scholarship.

Meantime, the grand-daughter of Robert Elford Henry, received a plaque from the bank on behalf of her grandmother, Roselyn Henry, the widow of the late Elford Henry.

“It is with humility that I accept this plaque from the Dominica Agricultural and Development Bank (DAIDB). It serves as a token of appreciation and recognition for the contribution made by my grand- father Robert Elford Henry. We realized that his contribution as a member on the board of directors of DAIDB has not gone unnoticed. As a family we express our profound gratitude for the plaque presented in his honor,” she said.

She said she was pleased with the bank’s decision, “to award an agricultural student of the DSC the Robert Elford Henry Scholarship for Agriculture”.

She congratulated the recipient and wished him well and left with him a Bible verse which she said her grandfather would normally quote to her, that states, “in all thy ways acknowledge him and he will direct thy paths”.

Elford Henry, who passed away in late July of this year, served as a parliamentarian, chairman of the Banana Industry Trust, member of the Board of Directors of the AID Bank and a former operations manager at the then Dominic Banana Marketing Corporation.

He was the parliamentary representative for Wesley for several years as well as being an active farmer.

He was given an official funeral.

“Which Government fix the road in front of your Mother House Mr Telemaque? I think you like to Rubbish and things you have any idea about,R E Henry did not have any son Working at D B S.”

Since you have no name, that means you do not exists:

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha; and do feel free to call me son; okay. As for the last time I was in Wesley that’s when Arnold drove me around the village so that I could have seen the village counsel accomplishments. And if someone said that Henry did not have a son employed at DBS, then one of the two of us is mad.

Unless I am going crazy, and forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe the one of the same son in question, now resides in the United States, and have some medical issues which led to blindness. And as for talking abut government building road in front of my mothers house, I am now confused since my grandmother house at hunt road deteriorated a long time ago, and rotten to the ground!

My biological mother lived on the same piece of land with my grandmother, her old house has long suffered the same fate as that of ( me grandma you see).

My dad though dead, and also his wife residence still stands, and even if you assume my father “Canadian Moomoo wife is my mother you would be wrong, and this leads me to remind you the main road which through the village was built by the former colonial government, long prior to anybody alive in Wesley in the twenty-first century.

I give credit to all the government of Dominica for conducting resurfacing of the main road, which amounts to nothing much. Again feel free to call me ” Son, or Etienne, Francisco if you so wish, but this Mr. Telemaque, throw that out the window in the bath water, I am second class and do not need this Mr. thing oui.

I doh no which mother or in front which house you are talking.

Admin: Mr. Telemaque. You’re referring to Steinberg Henry. He is not the son of the late R.E. Henry.

Admin, I shoot myself in my foot on that one: Indeed the Silver, is the late Fred Henry Son. I think he was born in Portsmouth; I think his mother is from Portsmouth too.

Well anyway to error is to be human!

In any event I may have given R. E. H too much credit, which he does not deserve.

What a wonderful tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his life to nation building especially in the area of Agriculture. Thanks for honouring Mr. R.E. Henry.

Yes, Wesley, a wonderful tribute indeed, to a man you claim dedicated so much of his life to nation building!

Talk is cheap, political rhetoric is cheap, however, apart from Elford begin an eloquent speaker, with his golden voice, I challenge you to state to me what in the village of Wesley can you point to, and say to me this is here because of the dedicated efforts of Elford Henry!

If you ask me I will tell you that Elford was used by the Labor Party the same as they have used Gloria to secure the votes, then they became a token. Gloria is at the moment nothing more than a joke, Elford was the same way. I do not take pleasure in making such harsh comments in regards to the two in question because they both are my blood relatives, Elford via his father James Henry, and certainly Gloria who’s late father is my uncle, and my late mother her biological aunt.

You are excited, and falling into the trap which the Labor Party has set for people like you, if all you care about is honor for the well spoken talents of someone that is all you will get; do not be gleeful over such nonsense!

Prove me wrong by showing me one single thing that Elford brought to the people of Wesley during his tenure as a politician. Indeed his son worked at DBS Radio for some time, but that was for personal gain, and had nothing to do with any development in the village. While Elford was playing politics, we did not even have running water in the village, since the system the colonial masters left behind was broken, it took the UWP to install a new system.

I may not be correct, so you have the opportunity to call me out on that, and before you comment on the paved roads throughout Wesley, let me inform you I am aware that the village council and the people of Wesley, and the efforts of Kenneth, and Arnold Telemaque are totally responsible for the paved roads; they are the ones to be complemented for their efforts, and not R. E. Henry, nor the Labor Party!

And I believe the word is honoring, and is spelt as such “honoring” and not the way you wrote it in your submission: “honouring.”

You talk too much carp for a man. Get some backbone and take flight as a man, visit your community, stay for a while instead of getting misinformation from men with grudges who feel that they are not recognized. Whatever hate you have from your childhood days let it go and move on.
