Aisha Mark was laid to rest on Tuesday

Amid silent sobbing and gentle funeral hymns, former carnival queen contestant Aisha Mark was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Tears came easily to everyone in attendance as they said their final farewell to the young 33-year-old mother who succumbed to breast cancer on February 6th, 2014.

Speaking at the funeral service held at the St. Gerard’s Hall, Father Branker John, reminded family and friends to always hold on to faith even when times may seem difficult.

“When it seems that God has abandoned his people, the people of God should not abandon their faith and their trust in God. When everything seems to be falling apart around the people of God, people of God do not fall apart themselves but hold on to real hope,” he said.

John encouraged those in attendance to continue to pray for Mark and continue to make Jesus a part of their daily lives.

Mark, who once worked as an announcer on state-owned DBS Radio, was a teacher at Dominica Grammar School when she passed away.

She was laid to rest at the Roseau Catholic Cemetery.

She contested the Miss Dominica Pageant in 2002.

It is so sad to see how cancer stole this beautiful woman away from us. However I know of a young woman in our community who faked having a “brain tumor” just to get money from a man. It sounds unbelievable but it’s true. What a character!
May Aisha’s soul rest in peace.

There is no reason that she should be dead at 33. Nothing like censorship DNO.

God knows the reason why He called her at this young age. Throughout the world many young people die and even younger.
Two days ago an 18 year-old woman was killed by an undercover police vehicle in Toronto. A woman who was interviewed said, “She is so young.” I have not yet heard/read how this accident occurred and whose fault it is.
Yesterday I heard a man on US Catholic Radio spoke of his 32 year-old wife who died. It is sad to know of this.
Dominicans have died in other countries as Toronto at a young age. Even though some are older, their passing was sudden and not expected. We go through this all the time. As we age, it will increase. Tomorrow I will be attending a funeral of a male person who died suddenly.
Take heart. God is in control. Just give it all to Our Lord. Ask him, if it is his Holy Will for a long life with health and strength. While you have life always do good for this will follow you to eternity. God bless you!

There is no reason that she should be dead at 33 from breast cancer. Time to get rid of all of these pesticides and estrogenic mimickers that are causing the reproductive cancers, that includes the plastics so commonly used that leach into the water and food. Just about all of the plastics that they are using each to some degree and they know it. Prevention is the best route.

    • Simply the Truth
      February 14, 2014

There are many contributing factors which cause this. Are you aware that one of the causes as far as I have been hearing is contraceptives? You know that this is a foreign object. It should never enter the body, be placed or ingested.

      • Anonymous
        February 15, 2014

There are estrogenic pharmaceuticals also that are used that can lead to cancer. Pesticides (Round-up, grammazone) and BPA (plastics) are estrogen mimickers that cause mutations leading to mainly reproductive cancers.

Morihei you are generalizing. This does not apply to everyone. To begin with many of us do not know her. It is appropriate to offer our condolence to the family and state some kind words.
Some of us write from the heart. At the same time we keep in mind that one day we will surely follow. This is another reason why we should ever be kind while speaking the truth and standing up for the truth in words especially at a sad time as that. It assists to strengthen the families who are mourning the loss of loved ones. It is customary that we do so.

This is to let us know, we should love each other more no matter race, religion, political affiliations etc. We are like flowers, some of us will die before each other, but we will die. No Question about that. We just have to make sure we are right with the God of Heaven and Earth.

I don’t know her, but it seems she was a beautiful and loving human being, moreover she was a teacher. Right now we could only pray for her family she left behind, the children she taught, and cherish her memories. Sorry, she is dead so we cannot pray for her. We hoping to meet her on the other side.

Aisha Mark, now a soul in eternity, who was faithful to God and to His (your) Church, persevering to the end, we know that God had better and higher plans for you. It is said, “God protects us from something worst than death.” O death, where is your victory?”
God gave you the time to make amends and to ask his forgiveness. He knew all the good you did on this earth, known much more to him than anyone on earth.
You obviously received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church, the final anointing of the sick which helped your transition.
Then, the Holy Mass, the Sacrifice of the Mass, Our Lord’s Last Supper. What a blessing to have received these Sacraments. God ensured that you got it all prior to leaving this world and being laid to rest. This is a sign that you are well on your way to Heaven.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen!
May her soul and other souls of “the faithful departed”, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!
To her family who now mourn her loss, it must have been difficult for you to know that she would soon be leaving you. I feel your sorrow.
My heartfelt sympathy to you and God’s consolation. As Father said, take heart, be strong and keep the faith. God is with you. God bless you!

It is in the Holy Bible but they are not well-versed in Holy Scripture as much as they profess to be. The Book of Maccabees is one. There is a chapter in it which refers to praying for them and to give alms in their memory. If their souls are in Purgatory, they cannot help themselves but we can help them.
Some of their leaders took this Book out of the Bible. This is why they make such an ignorant statement.
Those who follow the false teachings of certain leaders will never become spiritually enlightened and not well-versed in Holy Scripture.

The same way no one knows where you go when you die. You can’t pray for a dead person, it is useless! You might want to pray for their family and friends, however.

You speak like a fool! If u took time off to read your bible you’d know that you can’t pray for the dead. It clearly says “after death is judgement, there is no repentance after death”. Them priest self contradicting the bible.

        February 14, 2014

It is in Maccabees. There are a few more passages in the New Testament which refer to them.
God is merciful. He created Purgatory where the souls that are not yet ready (pure) to enter Heaven and not bad enough for Hell will be purified prior to entering Heaven.
We did not make this up. It is not fictitious. It exists and will be until Judgment Day. Visionaries have also been given visions of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.
Be thankful to God and praise him for Purgatory where souls will be cleansed. People do not die in perfection of soul. Otherwise, nearly every soul on earth, religious or not including your own would not qualify to enter Heaven. Better believe it! This is for the deniers and doubters.

When it seems that God has abandoned his people, the people of God should not abandon their faith and their trust in God. When everything seems to be falling apart around the people of God, people of God do not fall apart themselves but hold on to real hope,” he said—News article.

Jesus to us, through His disciples, as He was ascending into heaven: And lo I am with you always; even to the end of the ages. Matthew 28: 20

This would mean that God does not turn His back on His people; but many a times He needs to cause us to grow in faith as we build hope in His promises to us –those are the times we encounter those hard times; even to the point of losing our loved ones in death–but the Hope in us keep us comforted, that the passing away of the body is not the real death at all–there is Life on the other side of the grave for God’s chosen people; who passed away with the revival of the soul, the Life that is the Light of man by his faith in God’s Person of Love– Jesus Christ.

To the loved ones of Aisha Mark I advise you to be sure that you are now living in the Spirit on her behalf–if she was a child of God; that is the way He continues to remember her, through you who remain in the body.

But I know that you are a sad and in times like these I have a beautiful prayerful song that always gives me the strength to carry on–here it is below, I have used the plural of the pronouns; because I am sure there is more than one of you. I hope it will help you all to find some form of comfort.

Where do we go from here
When test of faith is drawing near
Touch our hearts and guide our lips in prayer
Through the grace of God alone
We can cast away those fears we have known
And free ourselves from the depths of deep despair

    Lead us through the darkness
    And through each gloomy day
Take our hands, O precious Lord
And guide us on our way
Give us strength that we might find
Abiding faith and peace of mind
So we won’t ask, where do we go from here.

Blessings if peace and joy, which will definitely keep every one of you moving towards hope and not despair.

I have had conversations with several people from home this past week, and this should become a priority for our Health Department. Isn’t anyone concerned that with our population the percentage of women (moreover under 50) who are dying of breast cancer? I can understand and was assured that everyone is becoming more aware, but my main concern is “we should try to set up some form of study to find out what is the cause of such a high percentage.” In the past 10 years I KNOW 8 ladies who died of breast cancer in Dominica and right now I know of 2 young women presently who’ve been diagnosed.
