Member of the CCCU Board of Directors, Hansel Valerie said the establishment prides itself in contributing to the personal development of youth and a future that offers hope and opportunity.”

“We take pride and pleasure in ensuring that some children receive an opportunity to transform their lives, to grow up to be productive citizens, to be successful in obtaining a viable future…” he remarked. “It gives us much joy.”

Valerie urged awardees to set priorities for themselves, and to do their best throughout their educational experience.

“You have an opportunity today. Grasp hold of it. Do the very best that you can. Dedicate yourselves to your studies. Be single-minded in ensuring that you are always at the top of your class. Put first things first. Prioritize your time,” he advised. “The effort that you put into your studies and your education will determine the level of accomplishment that you will have at the end of it.”

He also asked that parents “continue to encourage their children, monitor their progress, and… make sure that they put the necessary effort into their school work.”

Nena Joseph, grandmother of Jennicia Jacob, thanked the CCCU, for what she described as much-needed assistance, as Jacob’s mother is disabled, and she is without a father figure.

“This is just a need—not a want, but a need. And I’m so very glad, especially to the Central Credit Union, because this is such a good gesture for that child… And I wish that she will do good and excel.”

The students all promised to work hard and do their best in school.

The CCCU has awarded scholarships to students, based on both merit and need, since 1967.
