The newly-launched Audiovisual Association of Dominica (AAD) will be working in collaboration with the Dominica Coalition of Service Industries (DCSI) to facilitate a consultancy for the development of the sector on the island.
“We are about to facilitate a consultancy to develop a service sector expansion and draft policy which would have a significant impact on the growth and development on this industry and other priority service industries,” stated Lester Riviere, executive director of the DCSI, at the launch of the AAD on Thursday evening.
He said on completion of this consultancy it is expected that “a comprehensive situation analysis and a practical and implementable action plan will be developed.”
Riviere said the launch of the AAD is evidence of their efforts in establishing the association as well as a combination of several months of hard work.
He also urged those involved in the sector to keep abreast of the growing trends in technology.
Speaking at the same event, President of the AAD Jessica Canham called for unity to move the sector forward.
“For us to be able to take this industry further and to create more opportunities for producers and to raise the standard and the content in Dominica, we have to collaborate to create new partnerships,” she said. “There is significant talent here, human resources, drive, there is determination. So we need to come together now and decide what kind of model we are going to create for the industry.”
The event was held under the theme ‘Creating opportunities for collaboration and partnership in the audiovisual sector’.
There were remarks from movie producer, Rudy Langlais, as well as presentations by members of a panel on creating opportunities for collaboration and partnership in the audiovisual sector.
In my opinion the Association has produced films for companies Worldwide. So, we should dismiss the myth indicating that Dominica is not capable of doing so.
