There are a number of persons of Dominican birth and heritage living among us as well as friends of Dominica. At this particular time I would like on behalf of the Government and people of Anguilla as well as on behalf of my family and myself to extend my sympathy and empathy to the entire Dominican community and its diaspora.
Anguilla is no stranger to the devastation and pain that can be caused by such disasters having experienced a number of severe hurricanes ourselves. We therefore have a firsthand understanding of what you must be going through at this time and can assure you that our prayers are with you.
I have written to your Prime Minister, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, expressing our sympathy and concerns. I have made a statement in my role as Chairman of the ECCB Monetary Council as well. And I have also had the privilege of speaking to a number of volunteer community workers on the ground in Dominica where I got a grass roots expression of the enormity of the challenge your country folk are facing at this time. The situation is dire but Dominicans have proven to be a resilient people wherever they are — and will overcome even this trial with God’s providence and guidance.
Again let me reassure the Dominicans living among us that Anguilla stands ready to be of assistance in whatever way we can in this very challenging time.
May God Bless you all! And may God Bless Dominica!
Dear Sir
In your role as Chairman of the ECCB Monetary Council and given the ECCB’s jurisdiction over the financial institutions in the Eastern Caribbean, we hope that consideration can be given for a grace period, together with the credit unions and other lending institutions, to allow Dominicans to basically get back on their feet. With every community affected, some so much worse than others, how on earth are people going to repay mortgages, and other credit facilities? See the damages done to hundreds of vehicles – even with the insured/type of insurance is critical and length of time for claims. Even if relief efforts, and we know how complicated these can be at times, with roads impassable, some communities cut off, many of us are not even able to resume work immediately. Some persons have lost everything. How can ECCB and the government facilitate the borrowers/customers? There is so much at stake.
Thank You Sir, we appreciate Anguilla’s friendship, help and confidence in our people.
We accept our plight to do what is in our power to rebuild our country. We have total confidence in our government and pray God will give them the strength necessary to face this tragedy we have been dealt; as we mourn the deaths of so many of our citizens in the wake of Tropical Storm Erica.
Thank you sir, the people of Dominica will be happy for every help we can get right now .
THANK YOU SIR, the people of Dominica will be happy for every help we could get right now, once again thanks to all man, woman, and child of your country.
Thanks Chief Minister Banks. We appreciate the support. Our sister islands are connected in many ways. Perhaps we can revisit a wider ferry service between more islands.. Travel options are important.
