Former Appeals court judge – Dominican Albert Matthew has died.
Reports reaching DNO say the jurist passed away after a brief illness which took him to Trinidad & Tobago for treatment and urgent medical attention.
Justice Matthews is said to have died sometime on Thursday in Dominica.
He served as High Court Judge in many islands of the Eastern Caribbean, and was later elevated to the OECS Court of Appeal.
After his retirement from the OECS Supreme Court he was again called upon to assist the court as an acting high court judge which he did “with great honor and distinction”.
It’s not yet been announced when and where his funeral service will be held.

JUDGE ALBERT MATHEWS WAS NOT ONLY A FINE JUDGE BUT AN OUTSTANDING SPORTS MAN.IN FACT, IN HIS DAYS, HE WAS ONE OF THE VERY FEW FOOTBALLES WHO COULD KICK THE FOOTBALL JUST AS HARD WITH BOTH FEET. I CAN REMEMBER WHEN I WAS A KID I SAW MR. MATHEWS RUNNING FROM HIS DEFENSE AREA UP TO THE PENALTY AREA OF THE OTHER TEAM, STOP FOR A MINUTE, KICKED A PENALTY AND THE GOALKEEPER JUST DIDN’T SEE WETHER IT WAS THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT FOOT THAT SHORT THE BALL IN THE V.HARLEM WILL MISS YOU,LOFTY AND DON CHRISTOPHER.
My sincere condolences to his family. Obviously a great Dominican. We are witnessing the changing of the guard. Let us do so with dignity, respect and pride.
HE WAS one of the brightest legal minds of his generation and came frowm the law capital of Dominica i.e Newtown. He also represented Dominica in sports and was soft spoke and a fine genleman, highly respected individual.

My condolences to his families and friends, May His Soul Rest In Peace
I didn’t know the man but I heard a lot of good things about him. May his departed soul rest in peace.
By the way, it seems as though the death rate for Dominican men (both in Dominica and overseas) is very high this year. Is it just coincidence or the life expectancy for D/cans is falling rather than rising?
Another pmominent son of the soil has passed. My condolences to Michelle and the rest of the family, friends and the legal fraternity in Dominica. May his soul rest in peace.
Thank you Mr. Matthew for your contribution we appreciate your dedication to us/the rul of law.
Wow! RIP Justice Matthew. May his family be comforted in this time of loss.
