Albert Matthew passes on

Albert Matthew

Former Appeals court judge – Dominican Albert Matthew has died.

Reports reaching DNO say the jurist passed away after a brief illness which took him to Trinidad & Tobago for treatment and urgent medical attention.

Justice Matthews is said to have died sometime on Thursday in Dominica.

He served as High Court Judge in many islands of the Eastern Caribbean, and was later elevated to the OECS Court of Appeal.

After his retirement from the OECS Supreme Court he was again called upon to assist the court as an acting high court judge which he did “with great honor and distinction”.

It’s not yet been announced when and where his funeral service will be held.

JUDGE ALBERT MATHEWS WAS NOT ONLY A FINE JUDGE BUT AN OUTSTANDING SPORTS MAN.IN FACT, IN HIS DAYS, HE WAS ONE OF THE VERY FEW FOOTBALLES WHO COULD KICK THE FOOTBALL JUST AS HARD WITH BOTH FEET. I CAN REMEMBER WHEN I WAS A KID I SAW MR. MATHEWS RUNNING FROM HIS DEFENSE AREA UP TO THE PENALTY AREA OF THE OTHER TEAM, STOP FOR A MINUTE, KICKED A PENALTY AND THE GOALKEEPER JUST DIDN’T SEE WETHER IT WAS THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT FOOT THAT SHORT THE BALL IN THE V.HARLEM WILL MISS YOU,LOFTY AND DON CHRISTOPHER.

I didn’t know the man but I heard a lot of good things about him. May his departed soul rest in peace.

By the way, it seems as though the death rate for Dominican men (both in Dominica and overseas) is very high this year. Is it just coincidence or the life expectancy for D/cans is falling rather than rising?
