Association of Information Professionals to be formed

It was agreed at a gathering of information workers held on Thursday May 13, 2010 at the National Documentation Centre Building that there is a need to establish an Association of Information Professionals to advocate for professionals and services within the information field.

Participants from public, academic, and special libraries along with personnel from communication and resource centres within Dominica discussed various issues in relation to information management and service provision.

The grouping recognised the importance of networking and collaborating to improve on service delivery, assist in staff development and facilitate quicker access to information.

It was also agreed that given the importance of information to inform decision making at all levels that personnel from all sectors of the information field will be required to combine efforts to best effect change and deal with the challenges and constraints that face this field.

This serves to inform personnel within the information field of efforts being made to establish an Association that will include:

research officers, information officers , communication officers, librarians – public, special, academic, school, community

library assistants, library technicians, book repair binders, database managers, record managers, network administrators, web administrators, staff of resource centres, staff of information and communication units (ICU), staff of archives and museums, past librarians and other persons interested in the field.
