Attorney makes financial contribution to two organizations

The checks were presented on Monday

Two organizations have benefited from a financial contribution courtesy of the Caretaker of the United Workers Party (UWP) for the Roseau Valley, Attorney-at-law Ronald Charles.

They are the Morne Prosper Village Council and the Cochrane Football Team.

The contributions were made at a cheque presentation ceremony held at Charles’ office in Roseau on Monday.

Representative of the Morne Prosper Village Council Eugenia Jolly received the cheque on behalf of that village council, while Captain of the Cochrane Football Team Kimon Jno Baptiste received on behalf of the team. The amounts were not disclosed.

“The whole purpose of all of this is to see that people’s lives improve but more importantly that they get the opportunity to socialize and to play sports,” Charles said.

Charles said the Morne Prosper Village Council has been a hard working village council for many years.

“They have been engaged in a lot of community projects and more recently they have been heavily engaged in the road rehabilitation projects and therefore I am making this financial contribution towards the Morne Prosper Village Council, so that they can use this as a contribution towards their projects,” he stated.

Charles said funds contributed to the village council will also towards the development of table tennis in Morne Prosper.

“But again as I have said I made a promise to the young table tennis players earlier this year and again that contribution will go towards them,” he revealed.

Charles believes that this is one of the sports that is slowly emerging in Morne Prosper, “but with the proper tools and so forth they can do much better.”

He hopes this financial contribution will go towards the table tennis team and to improve the players, “to give them a sense of hope, a sense of belonging…”

Charles is sponsoring the Cochrane Football Team for the second time this year

He called on the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Valley constituency, Dr. Collin McIntyre, to pay more attention to the hardworking farmers of Morne Prosper as it relates to road development.

“So that they can at least get better form of transportation, better roads, better and equipment so that they can help themselves,” he stated.

Jolly and Jno Baptiste both thanked Charles for his contribution which they believe will go a long way in benefiting both organizations.

Jno Baptiste said the contribution will go towards uniforms for the team during this year’s league.

I think this presentation to the village council should have been made at the a meeting of the village council and not at his office. Time to remove the lawyer outfit when making presentations and get down to casual. Be like the people, attend a meeting and present the cheque.
Also I am wondering whether the funds for the cheque for the Cockrane team uniform came from the DOMLEC cheque for the Roseau Valley Football league. Ronald received that DOMLEC cheque not too long ago on behalf of the committe organizing the league. Just wondering.

    @Dorival John:

Not every gift has to be broadcasted…I don’t understand what is your obsessive desire to know what the amounts are. I’m sure it is enough to buy the Cochrane football team at least one football…I’m sure it is enough to buy the Morne Prosper Village Council at least shovel or wheelbarrow to help them to block up the holes in the road.

And to the person who said the Parl Rep spent thousands of dollars on Morne Prosper road:

HE IS NOT DOING YOU A FAVOUR!!!

How many times do I have to say it: Roads, Bridges, Schools, Hospitals….all of these things are a citizen’s right! This is your tax monies that supposed to be used to upkeep/build these structures.

Stop feeling so grateful when politicians make a big song and dance about giving money for road maintenance etc…

When will my people get it, Lord?? WHEN??

“I don’t understand what is your obsessive desire to know what the amounts are.”

Well, the UWP has made itself the poster party of transparency, openess and the like. If you are making a public donation to an entity or two, what is the secrecy behind the amount?

The UWP is all talk but no action.

I really wonder when…. Dominican praise politician for doing things they are placed there to do. It’s not out of good will they are doing it.. it’s our tax money and we still paying the politicians a salary.. I don’t get it, the way some Dominicans think smh. On another note: when the current govt does something and it is criticised by the opposition… the dlp supporters bash them now it the other side the dlp supporters doing the criticising. Hmmmm it doesn’t matter what the amount is just be positive. Thank you Mr Charles for you assistance to these organisations. Doesn’t matter how small.

Jeezzz we not going anywhere in this country.

I would really pike to know what is your tax contribution Sonny if you pay at all. If you are honest you would know that taxes alone CANNOT fund all these projects. We have Finance Minister PM Skerrit who has to source money outside of the taxes. And that’s where the CBI comes in to play

Really? Mr McIntyre as the elected parliamentary representative for the Roseau Valley constituency ensured that the roads were fixed? Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty! Next you’ll probablh claim that he took the money out of his own pocket too… It’s good and all to be grateful for what you have but let us not mistake the duty of our parliamentary representatives for benevolence.
