Bishop of the Diocese of Roseau, His Lordship, Gabriel Malzaire, has called on all Catholic churches in Dominica to take up a second collection next week to assist victims of Hurricane Irma.
He also said donations of dry goods are accepted to be sent to affected islands.
“We are all too familiar with the devastating effects of hurricanes and storms in our region – the damage they cause to property and the loss of lives,” he stated. “In the last few days our sister islands of Antigua and Barbuda, the British & U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Dutch & French Island of St. Maarten have been severely hit by Hurricane Irma. In solidarity with our brothers and sisters in these islands, I request that a special collection be taken in all Churches and Chapels and at all Masses and Services during the weekend of Sunday, September 17, 2017.”
He noted that the Church will also accept donations from groups and individuals in cash or kind.
“In addition to the Church collection, we will receive donation from any individual or groups that are willing to contribute in cash or in kind. These can be taken to the nearest Presbytery or the Bishop’s Office,” the Bishop said. “We accept all relief items such as water, dry goods, lamps, bedding, adult and baby diapers and toiletries, but no clothing. Please avoid bringing things that you do not want.”
He added, “Let us join our efforts in helping to alleviate the plight of our brothers and sisters in need.”
Every Sunday and for so many years these people collect so much money, form hard working individuals, who ignorantly gives alms from there heart, hoping for only the fathers knows what!. but yet when its time for the churches to give back to the community or to give alms themselves they don’t. but rather keep sucking what’s left form the blind for their own profits, using humanitarian work as the scapegoat. but what can i say. the church has always been leading people astray. ISAIAH chp:56vs10-11 and EZEKIEL chp: 22vs26
So the first collection is still for himself then?
Hurricane Irma really devastated wide areas of these countries. What havoc she wrought. You will eventually be retired for good. I also expect Jose and Harvey.
It is no easy time for those affected and they are many.
It is sad and disappointing so many lost all they had.
Thank God not too many lost their lives.
Heartfelt sympathy to the family members of the deceased.
May these departed souls rest in peace. Amen!
In whatever country Hurricane Irma went, if there are some who are injured, may they be healed in time.
If any are badly injured and may not make it to good health, “Sacred Heart of Jesus, once in agony, have pity on the dying.”
This is also for those who are sick at home or in hospitals and those who may die in accidents, etc. God be with you.
Why not have one collection and donate all to the victims of hurricane Irma?
This may look negative, but it is in fact a good suggestion. One Sunday’s collection given away to charity, won’t harm the church, in fact is may come back hundredfold.
Smart feller, it are the parishioners who will pay but make his church look good, Why doesn’t he ask the Holy Father to make a contribution from the Vatican?
