Blockage of water intake affects supply from Mero to Castle Comfort

DOWASCO has warned that complete blockage at its main water system, the Springfield water intake, has disrupted supply from Mero to Castle Comfort.

DOWASCO General Manager Bernard Etinoffe disclosed on radio that the intake has been closed in order for it to be cleared.

“Once the rain subsides, our men are mobilized already to begin clearing that intake soon,” he said.

Etinoffe said the Picard community will also suffer from disruption to water supply, because of constant rainfall.  Most places will not have water shortly, because the little that’s in storage is being used at this time, he added.

It’s time for DOWASCO to put some water reserves in place.

Seriously speaking, Dowasco must upgrade their water supply system. Every time it rains or there is a flood nationals are out of water. This is nonsense. What inconvenience. Time to do something concrete about that.

This is ridiculous. This is the 2nd time this year! What steps are you taking to ensure this doesn’t happen again? DOWASCO I think you need to seriously upgrade your systems, this is WATER we’re talking about here. All now I want to make a corn meal with coconut milk and I have to go far for water… SMH!

This shortage of water is becoming a joke now.DOWASCO needs to get its act together, they are placing news pipe lines which has nothing to do with the existing lines, yet still we the people of st.joe and mero cannot get water. Not having water has become a daily thing,it is now something we expect each.I pray to God that someone will hear our cry,for this whole situation is a disaster waiting to happen,i don’t want too,but just imagine a major fire in the area, people! we no longer have the Layou river. So please Mr Manager and Ms Dickson tell us just where we are supposed to get this basic need called water from, when we are being shut down each day.
Just in case someone is busy to say thats the price that we pay for development, let me make it clear that we have been experiencing this problem since the major floods, and two,the ongoing water project has nothing to do with existing lines,it is new pipes that are being put in the ground in preparation for the new water supply. So tell me why the constant shut down when there is no need to TOUCH the old pipe lines.
The heavy rainfall over the weekend is a convenient excuse but our problems in Mero and St.Joe started longer before the weekend rains.
I call on my Parl Rep PLEASE make representation on our before, for it is now time to ask the HARD questions off DOWASCO.

U ARE QUITE RIGHT. IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 2 WEEKS NOW ON A DAILY BASIS, WE HAVE NO WATER IN THE MERO AND SURROUNDINGS VILLAGES. THIS IS A DISGRACE. HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO LIVE IN THESE CONDITIONS? DOWASCO DOESN’T EVEN HAVE THE DECENCY TO APOLOGISE TO US AND NOW THEY ARE CONVENIENTLY BLAMING THE WEEKEND RAINFALL.

well we all need not forget the old time days of collecting rain water in drums. Even if we all have running tap water at home we must always have reserve water just in case tap water runs dry.

      DAangel:

Good idea! We tend to forget the good old days. I recall in those days when the rain fell I would love to go under the spout and bathe; with my parents permission of course. :) It was like a waterfall falling on my head. We would collect rain water.
If possible, nationals should have a water- well constructed in their yard to collect rain water. I know of a couple, not in DA but in another West Indian island who has done just that, collecting rain water and always have water and a surplus. This water must be treated.
