Protest action at Public Works

Workers have shut the gates to the PWC facility in Goodwill
Workers have shut the gates to the PWC facility in Goodwill

Workers employed at the Public Works Corporation are presently staging protest action at its facility in Goodwill.

Workers told Dominica News Online on the scene that they have not been paid for several weeks.

“We are fed up,” one worker said. “We have our bills to pay. We cannot take it anymore.”

They said they are staging a “peaceful protest” so that their voices can be heard.

The police are also on the scene.

DNO is following this developing story and will publish information as it becomes available.

Only way to stop protesting is to punish ministers who don’t deliver, we need to find a away to make ministers accountable for failure, for example North Korean Defence Minister Hyon Yong-Chol

In all whatwhats happening and the leaders who are encouraging this type of behviours from our people remember the song that was played very often during elections “YOU RAISE ME UP”. reflect on the words of this song and think my people.

Election is over and we have five more years to g. Wait!Wait! Wait!. ” When I am down and, oh, my soul, so weary; when troubles come and my heart burdened be;Then I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.”

Reflect on these words. Have patience! 2019 not so far. Patience my brothers and sisters.

The country has no money half of the men should go and work y he land and raise chicken to feed the nation they would make more money on their own. We have to create more wealth on our own stop begging skerritt and singing for your supper. Have the courage to take some risk to do something for your self. Not getting pay all the time should make you go on your own get together and open a water company in your village and ship containers all over the caribean and miami stop drinking rum every day save your money don’t send it to miami the Cubans don’t need it.

In a free society every citizen has the right to protest, did they get a permit from the police to protest. The politicians and the police are your kids. If you taught them in elementary school how to respect , obey, create, control, managed, when they go to college they would know what courses to take to managed family and country. Our problems start with a bad education the British started , they did not teach us how to think and managed nothing , if we cannot even keep Roseau clean how can we managed a country with 70.000. People . How many ministers who had a grocery store, our problem is managing things we don’t know what to do we need outside help right now. Think of it the european union tells put a maintenance plan in place before you get money to fix feeder roads. You will always be beggers until you learn what to do. You have to find a way to create your own wealth, stop sending all your money to miamI buying bad chicken grow it your self

We talk road safety and have police officers standing at the back of a pick-up van. We see how enforcement cannot start until the officers themselves start to obey the laws. It would be hypocrisy to say don’t when they themselves do.

  9. The Authorities
    May 13, 2015

We The Authorities have advised the Public Works Corporation that they have been mere consequential casualties of the election.

They can go to the Great Holy Roman Catholic Cathedral and ask for a refund from the $500,000.00 which we gave them so their members could vote for us.

As the Prime Minister said: “I make no apologies for giving the money to the Bishop. I carry out instructions from above and it is not me who gave the church but the Lord who gave the church the money. So those of us who want to criticize a good deed, are not criticizing me but is criticizing the Lord so be very careful what we criticize,”

If you want to get paid, go to church and pray.

Follow-fashion monkeys, they see those tear gassed and rubber bulleted fools in Salisbury attempt to go against the Mighty Labour Power and now they want to try their hand at so-called protest with their big red “Labour ka Twavay” bag in front. My most Honourable Prime Minister has no time to deal with copy-cat fools who pretend to support while still trying to embarrass the Good and Holy Supreme Leader and his Ministers. My great PM will ignore these fools and make them come beg at his feet for their jobs which, by the way, they are lucky to have thanks to Labour and Dr. Skerrit. Ungrateful idiots!

The two women Cops standing in the pick up box while the men are inside. I can only assume that the cops also travel in the back of the pickup truck as well. I know it is “acceptable ” in Dominica that people travel in the back of the truck but is it legal and if these cops are hurt while traveling in the box as passengers are they covered by insurance.

Essentially the cops should set the example – the cops should not even be standing in the back of the pick up truck much less traveling in the same.

Frenz what you smoking man/woman? You seem to be in a world of ur own.
Don’t you know of No law ,no constitution cannot prevent anyone from doing anything as long as you are on the NEO-DLP side?
what insurance you talking about. If they get hurt in the process, the little malma insurance will cover a few things Medard the Min of health & all the hypocrites will go to the hospital for 6 weeks the 2 to their homes then they are forgotten.
Look at the Dr. who help elect the Neo -DLP-ites from President -P.M when he got his cranial bleed he was rushed out to Martinique. he will never be well again they have no use for him now he is packed away in the USA. Look at the other one who campaigned for the establishment who is currently in Martinique packed away again see the Neos are users.

He stated clearly the only way to defeat imperialism in our case the Neo-DLP regime is to attack on all fronts. Had the two been coordinated the police would have to be in two places. then what about 4,5,6,7,……………………………………21 places could they stretch their forces of Babylon in all 21 directions? You want an answer from me? ASK our current President .LMAO & really loud. As Chuckie sang” We doh get de message as yet” Advise to” Starlight” You ur guys we the masses eh ready yet. Skerrit is PM and Minister for finance and the man is out of state, and all you protesting? Why didn’t you all join the bawi farmers when they protested? All you just talking but all of you including your leader is afraid of Skerrit. If Savarin was leader I bet the protest would not be so weak.

The people of Salisbury where our independence was first declared in the Salisbury Declaration are again leading the way with strong protest declaration and not the wishy washy protests we have seen before. So those who want to fight for their rights should make their own Rights Declaration. This government will only act if the people make them act. The students and their parents should demand the tablets promised them. The single mothers at Grandbay should demand the houses promised them. Too many promises and no action. To quell protests the PM calls people to a meeting and makes more promises and then nothing is done. Eleven years promising a new hospital and still no hospital instead of gaining one we lost one at Marigot. New Morroco Hotel, billion dollar lottery, billion dollar marina at Castle Bruce and on and on. 6 floor Financial centre now is just government offices. The Prime Minister was right when he said people get the government they permit.

Common Charlo, maybe you need to resign from your very high paying job and come and lead a national protest like you did in 1979, because quite clearly the nation needs another one like you since your reason for shutting down the nation in 1979 as no where as close to the evils that are affecting us today.

The problem is, most of the work which is suppose to and use to be done by PWD is now being contracted out to the DLP supporters. Roads and Drainage a re being constructed by non engineers. The project at the Roseau river should have been through PWD in that way the money would stay in house to pay the workers. Just my thought

There is no group that is happy with the government and clearly it is not the government of the people, for the people and b the people. Public works cooperation is unhappy, farmers all over Dominica are unhappy, Bus drivers as well motorists are unhappy, segment of the police force unhappy, teachers unhappy, medical people unhappy, sports people unhappy, Union leaders are unhappy; No one seems to be happy with this government; yet they are not strong enough to have a massive nation protest like the one Charles Savarin organized in 1979, to bowl out the DLP. By the way the same DLP rewarded the same Savarin later by making him President of Dominica, under a DLP government. That alone should serve as a motivation for protest leaders because tomorrow they might very well be rewarded

They just held a symposium on “Traffic Safety” and to my great surprise, two uniformed police officers are standing in the bed of a pick up truck. Human beings should not be riding in the bed of pick up trucks. This symposium was nothing more than hot air and a rash reaction to the call of the masses to address this issue.

Original Mahaut Man, if you were from Mahaut at all then you would know a thing or two about having to work hard for your money. Last I checked, Mahaut people are proud too, but it seems as of late, the dependency syndrome has been hitting the country far and wide. If you had any self respect, you would do yourself a favour and put some numbers in your mind. How much is electricity, water, internet, cable, gas, food, clothes, shoes, tires, parts for your vehicle to operate efficiently, then determine whether their income is sufficient to sustain them and their children. After that, you may come forward and say that they should not speak for their right to work and earn a living and take care of their own. It bothers some that others would DARE see that Roosevelt Skerrit for the joke that he is slowly becoming. Job creation has always been consistent in the private sector, tell the government to step up and deliver on the jobs as promised. The damn puppet stop mimicking Linton???

I hope the Prime Minister is very concerned about the unrest in the country, like strikes and demonstrations. I hope he will use all the leadership qualities he usually boast about. He blundered in the manner he handled the Salisbury matter and worst his high handed utterances during the press conference when questions were asked about the protest at Salisbury. Presently, PWD workers have joined the action. The Prime Minister should bring closure to those unrest in a very amicable way as soon as possible. Our ministers cannot understand the frustration of our people…cockiness, arrogance, apathy, the order of their day . It is astounding to me how our politicians sleep at nights….but then their bellies are filled, one can tell by their ever increasing girths, their rides never run out of fuel, all areas of their lives are in tip top condition. Meanwhile poor people continue to struggle. hey lizard who do you see working, those nantans, chis, chines. people with little jobs that turn contractors with multimillion dollar equipment overnight… so we must ask are ourself, are those minister creating jobs for themselves or for public works?. I am certain we have so much holes in goodwill, that alone can keep public works on a payroll.

I think you are missing the point completely. PWD is not being run as most normal businesses, at least not at this point. Most businesses adjust their staffing levels to the amount of work they have. Sometimes management may choose to keep employees on staff through a temporary drought. There is nothing wrong in doing that. That helps with moral and you get to keep some of your experienced staff.

But when you have a structural problem of not enough work to even allow the company to meet payroll, you have to reduce the staff to meet your demand. That does not seem to be happening at PWD. They keep these poor souls on the payroll, some with nothing to do and nobody gets paid. How sustainable is that?

No successful business operates that way. And that is why I do not advocate for governments to be involved in the business of running a business.

STFU you idiot. Have they been productive? You Maniku? Did you ask for the results of Loren Bannis stint; what about Charlie junk; Did you ask to validate jobs for ambrose, Athenia, the Salisbury DOWASCO guy and Alo. These people at Public works have been working for years even before this corrupt administration and now you are suggesting that they be treated like rats. Did you ever witness the red clinic lines. At least these people at Public work had the dignity to stick with it even when they would endure 8 unpaid fortnights.
You Laborites are heartless, cruel and ignorant and this is exactly why these scum bags throw fodder so that foolish Laborites like you rush to eat their junk and drink their kool aid while they sipping henesy
