Despite being described as “tedious,” efforts to bridge the gap between the young and the elderly in Dominica are continuing, according to President of the Dominica National Council on Aging, Evander Joseph.
September is being celebrated as the Month of the Elderly in Dominica, under the theme “Longevity-Shaping the Future.”
Joseph said efforts towards bridging the gap between the younger generation and the elderly will continue.
“We want there to be a time when the young people can mingle with the old. To help them undertake carious activities. Since I became president I have been focused on bringing the young and old together to bridge the gap,” he said.
According to Joseph, bridging the gap will ensure a high level of respect and responsibilities among the young and the old in Dominica.
A series of activities have been set out, including radio programs, panel discussions and public awareness campaigns.
A walk-a-thon, fundraising activities and an awards ceremony to recognize the contribution of the elderly to Dominica are being planned for the month.
Anyone above the age of 60 is considered elderly in Dominica.
