British Prime Minister, Theresa May, is expected to announce £15-million in support for reconstruction in Dominica following the passage of Hurricane Maria.

May is attending the One Planet Summit now taking place in Paris, France, a major conference of world leaders. Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit is among leaders attending the conference.

The money will support the reconstruction of Dominica’s water system, which was destroyed by Hurricane Maria.

The Government claims the UK funding will make the water system better able to withstand future extreme weather.

“Tackling climate change and mitigating its effects for the world’s poorest are among the most critical challenges that we face,” May said ahead of the summit. “That is why I am joining other world leaders in Paris today for the One Planet Summit and committing to stand firmly with those on the front line of extreme weather and rising sea levels.”

In total, the UK is providing a £140m boost to those poorer communities around the world disproportionately affected by climate change, whether through deforestation or vulnerability to natural disasters and climate extremes.

If those complaining would direct their effort and time to more constructive activities things would be much better. Stop complaining and do something to help. It’s always those who have a lot to say eh!

We have the good governance of the PM and his cabinet to thank for that! They have appealed to the outside, and made a proper case for not only Dominica, but all other islands affected last hurricane season and by extension the entire region. Skerrit is for us, for all of us! Thank you Mrs May.

  4. December 13, 2017

We are grateful, very welcomed! Thank you Great Britain!

Lots of progress post-Maria. Thank you PM Skerrit for taking initiative to fight climate change for small island states!

I am willing to bet a year’s wages that if Dominica does get this 15 million, you will not see any difference three years from now.

Our government seem to have found a new way of keeping from doing the real work they were elected to do.

Yes, we need help to recover, but for love God, show pride, this begging is humiliating as it seems that’s the only thing we know how to do.

Too many “Climate Resilient Documents” sitting in Govt’s cupboard over the years taking dust. Plan for Success.

What’s the point of exercising proper time management without a clear plan built to take us where we want to go? By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. Let our advance worrying become advance thinking and planning. Think ahead, don’t let day-to-day operations drive out planning. A goal without a plan is just a wish. In preparing for battle I’ve always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable. I always say, don’t make plans, make options. Never look back unless you are planning to go that way. Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now. Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. If you don’t know exactly where you are going, how will you know when you’ve get there? Meticulous planning will enable everything a Man does to appear…

More will be given to us in the coming days but the issue still remains……. are we ready for the coming of the lord? Daniel 2:44 says, “and in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever”
Tell me people are we still in the days of the Babylonian empire? Medes and Persians? Grecian? Roman? or are we in the season where Iron and clay shall not cleave?
People prepare for the coming of the lord! Jerusalem is becoming the hottest debate while world leaders seek to form a united front in everything while Christians are asleep! People People!
    read your bibles.
    Get ready!
    Glory to God!

      Amen! Amen! Amen!

And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders,[g] the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” Revelation 6: 15-17

      December 16, 2017

America doesn’t have to follow anything. Dominica has no history with America, whatever assistance America gives is enough. Which is a lot if you have been paying attention. Its very arrogant of you to say this.

  13. December 12, 2017

Thank, hope the money will be put to good use to better Dominica , and its people, not in the political leaders pockets .

How much more stupid can one be?

He can’t be trusted and one of the most powerful country in the world giving the country who he leads £15M? Multiply that by $3.58.

Yet still he can’t be trusted?

Boy my granny always say the company u keep says who u are yea.

No wonder Lennox is your leader.

But keep going as ur level of stupidity grows.

Good thing Dominicans don’t take u all on.

Only all you believe and trust all u.

I’ll write to the UK government to make sure that they understand how to donate this money and that they clearly understand what kind of government Dominica has and it’s PM track record as far as cash is concerned .

    • December 12, 2017

You are totally brainwashed!! When the UK gives aid it manages the projects from start to finish, do you really believe that the UK will be giving the government of Dominica a check of £15 million? Regardless of who is in office be it Skeritt or Linton they will not get a check. Even China, when it gives aid sends its people to do the projects, not one cent goes to the government.

    • Observer
      December 13, 2017

I think they know about all that already. Last time they gave anything it was in building materials only and they have a department that watches and listens to discover exactly how aid money is used. They adjust their methods accordingly. They must be very familiar with the ministers of Dominica.

    • December 13, 2017

You have no sense. That is all I will contribute today.

      December 14, 2017

Well Lennox wrote the Queen of UK about Dominica and Skerrit and also the Commonwealth Secretary General yea and look we got £15M.

So who knows when u write we might just get £50. Million because you more importantly recognise then him.

Thompson cannot write to anyone except Sudan because he is an international disgrace. Sikiri self you done know already.

At Me. You are right. The flood gates are open; they are starting to complain already. These people are upset that Prime minister Skerrit is in the spot light although it is for the good of the country. It is quite ironic that their leader who typically has a loud mouth is very quiet.

      • Me
        December 13, 2017

I’m not referring to Skerrits efforts. I’m sure if he had spent time on building up the country, it wouldn’t be in such an economic mess. I’m referring to all the help that comes from outside. If people, showed a bit of gratitude it would be nice, instead of exposing bad attitude and ignorance as can happen.

The PM in the spot light! Monfared, Madueke, Francesco Corallo. Signing away our support for independence for our brothers and sisters in the Western Sahara in favour of his friend, king Mohammedof Morocco. Yes, he is in the spotlight alright!
