Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke says she’s committed to helping Dominica recover from massive estruction caused by Tropical Storm Erika in August.

Clarke, who represents the 9th Congressional District in Brooklyn, recently met with Amb. Hubert J. Charles, permanent representative of Dominica to the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United States on relief efforts for the Windward Island.

More than 30 people were killed and dozens remain missing from Erika’s onslaught.

Dominican official said reconstruction will cost in the region of US$228 million. Almost half of the island’s annual Gross Domestic Product has been wiped out, officials said.

Dominicans are so simple of mind , and so much dominated by their immidiate needs , that a deceitful man will always find plenty who are ready to be deceived .

Where are the dominican business men in miami when are they going down to help rebuild. After the British left60 yrs ago nothing has changed all we have is drunkards, lazy beggars waiting for government to put brains in their heads and make them think. Dominica has four merchants of value all the rest are mam and paps after 60 yrs, what are the dominicans doing they are all civil servant serving rich people , all the do is spend 70 percent of their time being non productive on the phone face book and Twitter, what was the purpose of living dominica to party and drink rum at miami carnival

While I appreciate the congresswoman’s concern over the plight of suffering Dominicans.I don’t believe her last statement (Let us continue to keep the people of Dominica in our prayers, and to work with president Obama etc.) is going to alleviate the pain Dominicans are going through.
If my neighbors house is on fire, I will not go down on my knees and pray but will call for more help and join the bucket brigade.
I laughed when Ms. Clarke said “We’ll work with president Obama to provide assistance to Dominica.
Let me bring race in the conversation, because race was one of the main factor why so many Dominicans were rejoicing after his victories.
Are you saying Obama does not know that his black brothers and sisters in Dominica are in need of help.? Miami, Florida is just maybe a 5 hour flight to Dominica via Goudeloupe.
Let us hope her hopes come true.

Good for you Ms. Clarke, and thank you. Also pleasantly surprised to see his Excellency the Ambassador, who for too long his been conspicuous through his silence and made me believe he had fallen asleep. It is o rare one hears from him, about him or his exploits. Welcome back from your slumber Sir.
