BUSINESS BYTE: LIME introduces debt amnesty

lime logoLIME is welcoming customers back to the leading landline, Internet and mobile network in Dominica over the coming weeks. In February and March, LIME customers with an outstanding balance can get up to 80% of their outstanding debt wiped clean!

This initiative comes against the backdrop of difficult economic times, and Dominica and the Caribbean’s leading full-service telecommunications company is going out of its way to help its customers settle and reconnect their LIME Service.

The company is introducing a Debt Amnesty program that gives every residential and business landline, internet and mobile customer with an overdue balance owing for one year or more the opportunity to have up to 80% of those unpaid bills cleared completely.

Customers are encouraged to take advantage of this special offer by visiting any LIME store or call the Credit Control Department at 255 3156 for more details.

“We understand that some of our customers may have problems paying all of their service bills,” said Jeffrey Baptiste, LIME Dominica’s General Manager. “We will always try to help customers who are trying to pay. This special amnesty offer is generous and far-reaching. It is a way of providing customers with the support they need to help them gain peace of mind and get back on track by having their service reactivated debt free and hassle free!”

Good effort by Lime..to capture customers attention, Lime noted 80% off your debt. However, i was quite disappointed when i went to settle my bill i am only entitled to 50% off. I was told if your phone has been disconnected for seven years and over , you will get the 80%, 5-7 years you are entitled to 50%…

Money owed to them is not a debt but an asset, at least on their balance sheet. However, a prospective buyer may not see it that way if these debts are aged and non-performing and merely used to bump up the asking price.

Wrong initiative Mr. Baptiste. People who pay their bills on time, have to pay for you giving away money like that and they themselves don’t benefit. The message is “don’t pay on time and Lime will cancel your debt. Pay on time and you get no discount”. Why should anyone pay on time now? Man, this country really upside down, back to front!
