President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin, last week welcomed the new High Commissioner of Canada to the Commonwealth Of Dominica, Her Excellency Marie Legault.

For the past 38 years Canada has provided economic and technical support to the growth and development of Dominica and this new High Commissioner has pledged to provide even further support.

At the presentation of credentials, His Excellency the President remarked that Canada holds a special place in Dominica’s relations with member states of the Americas.

“Dominica has benefitted and continues to benefit from technical and financial assistance offered by your government through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in the areas of health, education, agriculture, human resource development and local government development,” he said.

Her Excellency Marie Legault told the Head of State that the Commonwealth of Dominica and Canada have a long standing history of shared cultural links, commercial exchanges and people to people ties.

Just last year over 3,000 Canadians visited Dominica and the numbers keep increasing.

The High Commissioner spoke of the common values that unite the two countries.

“We are both committed democratic systems, respect human rights and we both value organizations in which we share memberships …both of our nations have indigenous populations and we value this diversity as it contributes to our culture and strengthens our countries,” she said.

H.E. President Savarin made reference to the threat of natural disasters posed by the challenges of climate change. However, Her Excellency Legault pledged Canada’s readiness support Dominica’s efforts to respond to that threat.

“Canada provided CAN$220,000 in assistance following Tropical Storm Erika which took place over a year ago and similarly provided CAN$1m in support following the December 2000 flood event. Heavy rains and unpredictable storms can have a devastating impact on infrastructure and on the people of Dominica. Canada is committed to working with the governments in the Eastern Caribbean towards strengthening resilience.”

Dominica established diplomatic relations with Canada in 1978, when Dominica gained its independence.

Canada, why did you put Rosie Douglas in jail?

Why are you telling your people not to visit us because we have AIDS and Zika.

You can go to hell with your ‘diplomatic’ engagement.

My dear president charlo.. please lobby to have Canada remove visa restrictions for us in Dominica. I need to vacation there but because of that visa thing it’s hard for all of us who genuinely wants to go visit there.

yes, it is nice canada helps out, how about our Indian people who are suffering with no houses, poison water, mold, etc, It just doesn’t seem right that our money goes to Dominica. Our immigrants get free housing, medical, and 28,000 C$ for a year, but our Indians get nothing, is this fair. I don’t think so. What happened to all the thousands of dollars that was given for Ericka.

diplomatic relations my @$$, to hell with them Canadian pretenders, we so blind and stupid that we cant see what they are doing to us, look at the conditions of the visa, you think it was overnight they came up with that, they carefully put that in place because these white people don’t want us in their country, come on people, open your minds and eyes.

Great to be back on board with Canada – the same country that told their citizens to avoid us because we were spreading the plague of Zika.

The same country that 100% supports Israel which Telmud (their equivalent of the bible) describes he mother of Christ as a whore and Jesus as deserving to be put to death on the cross as he was a magician and blasphemer.

The hypocrisy of the our regime is staggering.

I will be filing for cessation of my Dominican citizenship shortly as I refuse to pay taxes which go to the salary of this self-serving bloated mosquito who calls himself our president.

Why cant the issuing of Visas to Canada be equivalent to that of the USA, instead of making one pay, per visit, do like the USA, one could be given a 10,5 or 2 yrs.Visa, with a single payment ,one could travel several times to the USA but to Canada one is being charged per visits, now why one has to travel all the way to Trinidad in order to obtain A Canadian Visa. I have gone through it already, I have the experience. One will say that in order to obtain an American Visa , u have to travel to Barbados, there is closer

What you are saying is untrue. It is very possible to obtain a multiple year visa as well as mailing in the application and not going to Trinidad. Why don’t you read the website and stop talk nonsense. Maybe you had to go Trinidad cuz they need your finger prints cuz you not a standard applicant. talking foolishness. stupes

The Dominican government of the day was cautioned by the Canadian government, but they ignored the warning. You really can’t blame them.
