Candlelight vigil for justice

20140815_200834

Not even the rain could stop the small crowd which gathered outside police headquarters for a candlelight vigil on Friday evening held in solidarity with the family of Joshua Etienne who was found dead in police cells.

His family expressed happiness over the turnout.

“We are happy for the turn out…we want justice and we will be back every night at the same time until the charge of murder is read to those responsible and they are put in jail,” Etienne’s sister, Agnes Esprit said.

She is calling on peace, loving and concerned individuals to “join in the candle light vigil.”

“We need justice, and we will not stop ….God is a God of light,” she said. “He hears us, sees our light knows that we want justice and will deliver us. He said that vengeance is mine and I am a praying person and believe in him.”

Etienne was found dead in his cell at the Portsmouth Police Station where he was kept after being arrested for alleged possession of ammunition.

just watch the justice system in Dominica. i have already seen these police officers getting away. But u know what though the family are the system, God is the best system and guilt will bring those involved to a place where they will expose themselves.

Yes..HE did say vengeance is HIS..HE will repay..saith the LORD..but HE is the same GOD (JAHOVAH) who also said..Train up a child in the way he/she should go: and when he/she is old: he/she will not depart from it..Prov 22:6
It is also HIM who said,he that spareth his rod hateth his son/daughter: but he that loveth him chasteneth him quickly..And it is still HIM,since HE dose not and cannot change, when HE gave the Law to the Jews back then;told them what should be done to an unruly child..
Parent talk to that child..if that child will not hear..take that child to the priest for him to do likewise..and if that child is still hard of hearing.. that child is to be taken out side of the city gates AND STONE TO DEATH..
YES..that’s HIM,the same GOD who sits on the throne above our heads..
It’s not a light matter to go look for them(kids)like you’re buying some piece of clothing at Astaphans and should you use it or not ..that’s ok..
And that’s the back bone of the problem right now..folk just won’t admit it..especially the rotten parents..It was sown decades ago..when kids began having kids and now we are reaping the harvest…
Don’t expect it to get better anytime soon…

Make the necessary correction to your comment. There was no Morvan involved in any police station murder in Portsmouth. Do ensure that you have your facts straight before posting.

There is no excuse, NONE, for the police to assault a prisoner and cause injury, let alone death, no matter what the he/she may have done, no matter how repugnant the person.

Be prepared to return for many moons! Justice is slow and almost non-existent in Dominica these days!

The attempt on GON Emmanuel’s life took place on Christmas Day 2010 if you want an idea of the speed of justice in Dominica. We are talking 966 days and counting!!!

my sister, ofcourse God is a God of light. And all the prayers are important, remember when prayers go up God sends down blessings. remember God is not a sleeper. yes, we condemn the alleged actions of the officers involved but I do not think they would kill your brother intentionally. oh, no. I live in the same community as one of these officers and although we all have our flaws or accusation of previous violence but everyone makes their mistakes, he is a very good officer. we all giving the police words like they are devils, they still human like us all and they can falter. this should not have happened and I don’t support police beating up people but I believe we need to approach it better. give them a listening ear too. At the end of it all, God knows exactly what happened and he knows best. justice will be served…… either way!!

There are procedures to follow and it is out of the police hands.you people don’t obey rules and have no respect for the Law. It is left with those involved to act promptly. you are asking to hand over the police to you,Is that possible.Let the Law take it course and have faith. There will still be police and you never know when you are going to need one

    • Peaceful2
      August 17, 2014

I cant believe you. what about skerrit. no law, not even the constitution.

    • .
      August 17, 2014

but the police should know that they also need the people. but when they start brutalising and killing people how do they expect people to trust them or even want to work with them. these officers should not be treated like celebrities at the headquaters. i homicide was commited. the gentleman was somebody’s son

    • August 18, 2014

Deligent you are ridiculous wasn’t it the PM who said no law no constitution can stop him so what the h–ll you a talking about people don’t respect the law If the leader is not respecting the law of the land tell me what do you expect.
So I would suggest that you think before you speak or post your comments.

    August 16, 2014

i agree with u my sister. All the time God is good and God is good all the time. They cant hide from God. The police was suppose to protect the public, not help in abusing them. first of all, no police shouldnt have the right to beat anyone unless tha person may attack he|she then yes they may as self defense. the police always think that they are always right just beacause they tend to be police. who are you to even think you are a boss. we all make mistake but this one wasnt a mistake. Justice will be served!!! police now a murderer instead of a helper. wow. And what makes it worst is just because they need more people in the police force they will take all dog and cat to join police and in the end, half of them cant even read and write only joined cause the think they big as they tend to be police. we need real police to protect us not them little boys and girls they having these girls that cant do sh**

Change won’t come to Dominica in a envelope, citizens have to work harder to effect it..

anywhere on planet earth where citizens are united for a common cause you would see a few thousands present.just take a page from Ferguson Mo.

Dominicans will continue to feel the pinch because the masses are highly “Foolish to the Core” the minority and regular patriots who call and follow the change machine won’t crunch it in Dominica..

Dominica is generally cursed to to the evil deeds which the continue to do in the cover of darkness, thus nothing will Prosper or bear any sort of success overall…

Why is Dominica rated the Poorest in the Eastern Caribbean That rating tells the truth of what sort of minds reside there.
