Canefield Urban Council suffering from delinquency of some residents

Albert

Chairman of the Canefield Urban Council Simeon Albert said the payment of house rates in the area is still a major challenge for the Council.

Albert is urging residents to honor their commitment by paying their house rate as the maintenance of the community depends on it.

“When it comes to house rates, it continues to be a challenge for the Council. We are working hard with residents in all ways possible to avoid having to take anybody to the courts because that is the last resort. There are a number of people with accounts for ten years who have never put anything on their accounts and the Council has to maintain the area anyway,” he said.

Albert said it is only fair that these individuals make their contribution.

“We have re- installed new street lights and done everything we can to ensure that they get their additional services. I want to encourage them to pay their dues,” he said.

“We have re- installed new street lights and done everything…” What is the everything? All you never see the road going up on the hill where the Urban council is? The potholes are just getting bigger and deeper. I wouldn’t even call it a road anymore. Plus that big square hole at the corner of the intersection where 8th street and 1st street is… a vehicle’s tire can go down that you know. I think they are just waiting for an accident to cover it up properly. And they talking about dues. Something simple like that can be done without much cost to them.

On one hand I agree with your comment that people should pay their dues and stop waiting for freeness.

On the other hand I would like to know what is done with the dues that are being paid. Do the various councils make public knowledge of what works they have carried out. If people could actually see where their hard earned monies are being spent, then I’m sure they would pay without a second thought.

Try doing that in the UK and see if they dont take you to court and if you ignore the court, then they’ll send the Bailiffs to your door demanding the money, plus the Bailiffs fees. People have ended up in prison because they didn’t pay their council tax.
