CARIMAN speaks against gender-based violence

Holmes

The Caribbean Male Action Network (CARIMAN) Dominica has called on Dominicans to put talk into action and stand against gender-based violence.

Thomas Holmes, CARIMAN President spoke at the launch of a 16 day activism campaign against gender violence on Friday.

“Let our prisons be empty and our churches overflowing; let the hospital bed cater not for the violent attackers or the victims. Instead, let our schools be free to teach without fear and violence. Let our homes be the place of love,” he said.

While noting that men and women are involved in violent activities, he urged both sexes to contemplate on the negative behaviours that they adopt.

“We should not sit idly by and say it is not my business,” he underscored.

CARIMAN has partnered with the Bureau of Gender Affairs and Dominica National Council of Women for the 16-day campaign.

The launch of Drama Serial ‘Wake Up Call Part II’ is among the activities launched Friday for the gender violence campaign. A workshop for community leaders on domestic violence and Human Rights, a peace concert, and an all men radio panel discussion are other activities that have been planned.

Minister for Gender Affairs Gloria Shillingford was also present at the launching ceremony for the 16-days of activism campaign. She said men must be mentors to youngsters.

Hope this group will remain focused as most men’s organizations/groups tend to fall apart and I don’t know why. Mr. Holmes make sure prayer is the centre of this group/ organization.I am advising men take to advantage of this group, you will benefit greatly, trust me.
