In a meeting that has been described as ‘fruitful’ residents of Castle Bruce say issues of farming, concern for each others welfare, drugs among the youth and the state of the roads in the community are matters that need to be addressed.
The meeting was held to give residents an opportunity to discuss some of the issues which are of concern to them and finding ways of moving forward in a positive direction.
Hotel and guest house owners were given the opportunity to provide updates on their projects and the impact these projects are expected to have on the community.
The police encouraged villagers, especially the youth, to be involved in positive activites and expressed concern that three fires which occurred in the village, remain unsolved since no one has come forward to give information.
“The meeting atmosphere was cordial and respectful and for the most part persons interacted very well with each other,” organizers said in a release.
The organizers say the meeting was so successful that villagers agreed to meet again to discuss the issues further and are encouraging persons from Castle Bruce living outside of the community to attend.
They say the date has not been set but it will be announced in due time.
Organizers say they hope the meetings will build the groundwork for making Castle Bruce a better community.
a meeting discussing the way forward …look at who is in attendance. if these are the people to move this village forward we in trouble..minimun requirements for a government job is 5 o levels ..ask johno how much he have. without a competent leader nothing will happen. then again who the majority chose to represent them is a direct reflection of the level at which the community is. johno is a good man yes..but he should have remained in social work. he is not a politician and has not displayed any signs that he is able to grow into one… it’s time people start thinking progressively …i am not even too concerned really about the re-tired people in this meeting..more concerned about the young ppl of this community who are not showing any signs that they are ready to step up and move this village forward. our parents and grand parents time are soon coming to an end young people ..we cannot depend on them to secure a future for us. it don’t make sense as young people for us to grow up and make the same mistake that they have made and fall into the same traps they have. all is not lost though. in time i shall rise. at least if no other young person see’s the need to step up, i do and i will. Choices are important ..the young ppl need to start making choices to secure their future no one can make this life better for you or for me unless we do something about it ourselves.
the village needs to get more intimately involved in the lives of the young people. don’t necesserily mean what you all want for them is what they are interested in.A greater support in their sporting activities perhaps. Marijuana is not the problem and we should know that the situations are the issues and the herb is the last resort until the those in charge create a means of a way out for the deprived people we will continue to be stuck in this trap.the mind set of the people need to change as well and people need to see it fit old and more importantly the young , to get educated and be disciplined about it. A frequency of realization needs to be oscillated through the community that money is never the solution to poverty. True wealth is education. Unless the minds of the villagers grow and start proliferating healthy and progressive thoughts we are ever doomed.
Today Laurin where is she at from UWP now the labor representative in the US Virgin islands and being paid. Common people, its a game and you all are being played.
It uis time Skerrit stop taking tax payers money and give to Lorain for sitting at her home in St. Thomas..
That is wicked. Not Fair. This is unjust. Fat salary for doing nothin.
Just like the young lady in Tepier.
How she build that house?
open al u eyes people.
Good move Castle Bruce!!
DNO – I have cleaned up : this is the corrected version. Thanks
DNO, questions: your reporting does not inform us when the meeting took place and who organised the meeting. Why is the Parliamentary Rep., sitting in the audience – has he got nothing to say. Did you read the article in last week’s Sun newspaper where the Supremo cabal of Skerrit are about to dump Drigo and other labour Parl Reps? Castle Bruce has been poisoned by the Skerrit cabal, and every activity planned in the village is a fight between competing forces according the Sun article and it is true.. The last feast day was a disaster with these competing and conflicting forces who have divided our Castle Bruce. They dumped Lorraine Bannis and now Jono will be dumped. Yes he has failed but that is the nature of the politics of this so called labour administration.
Castle is a ghost town, it is dead and the next wild west movie will be shot there. The supporters of Skerrit who influenced what happens in Castle Bruce have no interest in Castle Bruce. They come in at the dawn of night talk nonsense, shoot their bullets and report back to Skerrit. We will soon expose them to the village sheriff for who they are. They only work in the interest of Skerrit and when they done they go back to Roseau. Three weeks ago they were in Pte. Soufriere talking nonsense. They promote propaganda, lies, illiterate nonsense and last election they pumped a lot of money from Supremo and no one knows where the money went to, some of that money went to some special people housing. These females and on male scouts only invade and parade the village to undermine the sitting Parliamentary representative, talk nonsense, they themselves know nothing of development and all they do is promote Skerrit. They have no plans for Castle Bruce; they are the biggest let down and distraction to Castle Bruce.
why are some people so negative they just don’t like to see anything positive going on. to the people of Castle Bruce keep up the good work the only people who can fix our community is God and ourself he say he help those who help themselves. i wish i was home to be a part of this thats what we need
jelousy is the brother of all evil. There is a darkness hanging over castle bruce and unless the people don’t turn from their wicked and jelousy ways things will never get back the way it use to be.
Dominican style -meeting meeting talk talk and then nothing total waste of time

I want to commend the CB folks for coming out to support this initiative and doing it for CB.
Thanks ,I see The Parl Rep,Teacher Jess,Teacher Calixte, Corinne and all the others ,thank you.We have work to do and taking CB to her full potential is the aim.
We awaiting your plans and we will step in at the appropriate time to give our Professional and Monetary support. It’s about CB and those of you on the ground have to do what’s best for the betterment of the Village but there are quite a few of us in the diaspora who are ready, willing and able to do what has to be done.
CB ,we have work to do,let us get busy.
the first thing you need to look at is the structure of the goverment that is mixed. Can you point out to me any democratic representative that is sitting with the republicans, not at all. one song one dance. But your government you see blue red green common people. Look at crazy T who was and is still a big fan of UWP, today where is he at. Tomothy UWP, where is he at, Charles freedom where is he at.
Peope allu wake up.With all dat talk…Allu dont have the smart to say in 21 Days let us follow up…Allu too smat..
While I commend the confab in raising community awareness in Castle Bruce, these sessions tend to be one-off events. For whatever the reason(s).
Small as our communities are, the sensitization period need not stop there as is normally the case. With the wind now at their backs, organizers should plan advance the community’s concerns by setting up discreet committees, assigning each one of the major topics of concern, charging them with deliberating on solutions and action plans with a view to seriously addressing the issues.
Then take their plan to central government (I want to deliberately by pass local govt.) for its approval and support – material and otherwise.
castle bruce people to sort.. nothing happen in that ghost town and they sit there quiet.. all de parl rep doing is drivig around and just talking. but its not his fault if skerrit and them had villas there then de place would florish..
PRAISE GOD FOR KELVIN RESTAURANT BEST FOOD IN DOMINICA. KEEP IT UP MY BOY
Am quite happy with what took place at Castle Bruce.
Looking at the photo taken,i realized that the Parliamentary Representative is sitting in the audience.Am just wondering if he was not part of the Panel, or he was an invited guest?
Is that Sweet Joe in the middle? Fmr Grand Bay Primary Principal? He is from CB for real. Must be him!
Yep. Thats him. Calix Cuffy, former principal of Grand Bay Primary and first principal of Grand Bay (Pierre Charles) Secondary Schools.
I will be home in just a little while to make my contribution to the village that made me the woman I am today … in the meantime, keep up the good work! Castle Bruce will rise again, i intend to do my part.
Where is the Parl Rep. in all of this is he missing in action???
he is sitting right there…
OBVIOUSLY YOU DON’T KNOW THE PAL REP… get some bleddy work to do!!! IDIOT!!!
This is exactly my point, these idiots cant tell who represents them but yet wants to comment. CIA i realluy dont know what you looking at.
This is not about the Parl Rep – it is about us Castle Bruce People. He has his task cut out for him and so do we – we are focusing on what we have to do. The Parl Rep gave his blessings and was part of the discusion. We need to see further than just in front of us – vision is very important
u doh see him dere… ur majeeeee
CIA on the watch” You’re just another example of some “politimotionally” charged idiot, who refuses to think/look/ before you speak/write. The Parl Rep is the first person in the photo…………your frigging idiot!!
I ask a question idiots because i did not see his name mentioned in the article and i do not know him idiots weh weh, ehen look it and I on your casr, hope that pleases you all illierates
you will know cia looking for just now.
I believe that the idea to meet and discuss was a wonderful one. The group responsible must be commended. However in order for it to be more productive participants should have been placed in groups thereby more people making contributions and a summary be given by a spokesperson from each group.
A few issues:
Lack of a land use plan.
The village council does not have the human resource capacity to drive development.
Too many issues were brought up, as result
matters could not be dealt with in depth.
Positive vibes!! More communities should do the same.
Please that aint going any where
