Castle Bruce residents discuss concerns

Residents of Castle Bruce at the meeting

In a meeting that has been described as ‘fruitful’ residents of Castle Bruce say issues of farming, concern for each others welfare, drugs among the youth and the state of the roads in the community are matters that need to be addressed.

The meeting was held to give residents an opportunity to discuss some of the issues which are of concern to them and finding ways of moving forward in a positive direction.

Hotel and guest house owners were given the opportunity to provide updates on their projects and the impact these projects are expected to have on the community.

The police encouraged villagers, especially the youth, to be involved in positive activites and expressed concern that three fires which occurred in the village, remain unsolved since no one has come forward to give information.

“The meeting atmosphere was cordial and respectful and for the most part persons interacted very well with each other,” organizers said in a release.

The organizers say the meeting was so successful that villagers agreed to meet again to discuss the issues further and are encouraging persons from Castle Bruce living outside of the community to attend.

They say the date has not been set but it will be announced in due time.

Organizers say they hope the meetings will build the groundwork for making Castle Bruce a better community.

a meeting discussing the way forward …look at who is in attendance. if these are the people to move this village forward we in trouble..minimun requirements for a government job is 5 o levels ..ask johno how much he have. without a competent leader nothing will happen. then again who the majority chose to represent them is a direct reflection of the level at which the community is. johno is a good man yes..but he should have remained in social work. he is not a politician and has not displayed any signs that he is able to grow into one… it’s time people start thinking progressively …i am not even too concerned really about the re-tired people in this meeting..more concerned about the young ppl of this community who are not showing any signs that they are ready to step up and move this village forward. our parents and grand parents time are soon coming to an end young people ..we cannot depend on them to secure a future for us. it don’t make sense as young people for us to grow up and make the same mistake that they have made and fall into the same traps they have. all is not lost though. in time i shall rise. at least if no other young person see’s the need to step up, i do and i will. Choices are important ..the young ppl need to start making choices to secure their future no one can make this life better for you or for me unless we do something about it ourselves.

the village needs to get more intimately involved in the lives of the young people. don’t necesserily mean what you all want for them is what they are interested in.A greater support in their sporting activities perhaps. Marijuana is not the problem and we should know that the situations are the issues and the herb is the last resort until the those in charge create a means of a way out for the deprived people we will continue to be stuck in this trap.the mind set of the people need to change as well and people need to see it fit old and more importantly the young , to get educated and be disciplined about it. A frequency of realization needs to be oscillated through the community that money is never the solution to poverty. True wealth is education. Unless the minds of the villagers grow and start proliferating healthy and progressive thoughts we are ever doomed.

DNO – I have cleaned up : this is the corrected version. Thanks
DNO, questions: your reporting does not inform us when the meeting took place and who organised the meeting. Why is the Parliamentary Rep., sitting in the audience – has he got nothing to say. Did you read the article in last week’s Sun newspaper where the Supremo cabal of Skerrit are about to dump Drigo and other labour Parl Reps? Castle Bruce has been poisoned by the Skerrit cabal, and every activity planned in the village is a fight between competing forces according the Sun article and it is true.. The last feast day was a disaster with these competing and conflicting forces who have divided our Castle Bruce. They dumped Lorraine Bannis and now Jono will be dumped. Yes he has failed but that is the nature of the politics of this so called labour administration.
Castle is a ghost town, it is dead and the next wild west movie will be shot there. The supporters of Skerrit who influenced what happens in Castle Bruce have no interest in Castle Bruce. They come in at the dawn of night talk nonsense, shoot their bullets and report back to Skerrit. We will soon expose them to the village sheriff for who they are. They only work in the interest of Skerrit and when they done they go back to Roseau. Three weeks ago they were in Pte. Soufriere talking nonsense. They promote propaganda, lies, illiterate nonsense and last election they pumped a lot of money from Supremo and no one knows where the money went to, some of that money went to some special people housing. These females and on male scouts only invade and parade the village to undermine the sitting Parliamentary representative, talk nonsense, they themselves know nothing of development and all they do is promote Skerrit. They have no plans for Castle Bruce; they are the biggest let down and distraction to Castle Bruce.

the first thing you need to look at is the structure of the goverment that is mixed. Can you point out to me any democratic representative that is sitting with the republicans, not at all. one song one dance. But your government you see blue red green common people. Look at crazy T who was and is still a big fan of UWP, today where is he at. Tomothy UWP, where is he at, Charles freedom where is he at.

While I commend the confab in raising community awareness in Castle Bruce, these sessions tend to be one-off events. For whatever the reason(s).

Small as our communities are, the sensitization period need not stop there as is normally the case. With the wind now at their backs, organizers should plan advance the community’s concerns by setting up discreet committees, assigning each one of the major topics of concern, charging them with deliberating on solutions and action plans with a view to seriously addressing the issues.

Then take their plan to central government (I want to deliberately by pass local govt.) for its approval and support – material and otherwise.

I believe that the idea to meet and discuss was a wonderful one. The group responsible must be commended. However in order for it to be more productive participants should have been placed in groups thereby more people making contributions and a summary be given by a spokesperson from each group.

    A few issues:

Lack of a land use plan.

The village council does not have the human resource capacity to drive development.

Too many issues were brought up, as result
matters could not be dealt with in depth.
