Many in Dominica, including DNO’s photographers, who waited to capture a photo of the ‘Blood Moon’ were left disappointed after rain and heavy clouds covered most of the sky over the island early Tuesday morning.
However, star gazers on other islands were lucky enough to catch a glimpse and even photograph the event.
The series of photos were taken by a Dominican living in Antigua and contributed by Shaski Jno Lewis.
A ‘Blood Moon’ or a total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon, and Earth align so that Earth’s shadow falls across the moon’s surface.
As the earth’s shadow moves across the moon, it takes on a red hue, hence the name ‘Blood Moon.’
Another is expected on October 8 in a series of four ‘Blood Moons’ to take place in 2014 and 2015.
Four ‘Blood Moons’ in a row are known as ‘lunar tetrads.’
Lunar tetrads are rare; none occurred between 1600 and 1900.
But sometimes they’re fairly common; eight tetrads will occur this century.
The next tetrad is expected to take place in 2032-2033.
It did not faze me. I was too busy indoors and then reading comments on DNO and writing. Then I went to bed. I slept like a log until early morning.
We had been experiencing relatively mild weather. Yesterday was mild but with high winds, enough to blow you over and everything in its path, if you were not steady on your knees and feet.
The weather forecast later was for freezing rain and snow. We got it alright. This morning I had to laugh when I saw the snow on the ground. It is wet snow. The rain was falling. The wind subsided and most of the snow melted but it is cold. Back to winter I thought. I said to someone: “What did we do to deserve this bad weather in winter and it appears not to be over?”
Today, it seems the Media had nothing to state about the moon. The bad weather must have prevented them from viewing the it.
Some years ago I observed the blood red moon. I was residing in another location of Toronto. I happened to get up early morning and looked through the window. I saw the round moon which was blood red.
The following day I telephoned two people about it including a Media outlet. Guess what? The Media gave me some sort of explanation about the atmosphere.
It is stated that when this happens, it is an omen. There could be an occurrence of either war or some other sort of disturbance. I am sorry that I did not make a note of that date.
The weather was clear and the blood red moon, round as ever was visible. I wondered what was that and what caused it.
It appeared that the Media knew nothing about this one. I saw it. I was alert and kept looking at this strange phenomenon and wondered as to the reason. All I can state is, God knew.
All you think skerrit playing the only red he want all you to see is the red clinic. He make the rain fall so that people woulld see the blood moon because the moon was red.
We cannot be disappointed about God`s work he is
lord of Lords and master of the universe. so lets chill and allow the creator to do his work. He gave his life to save us from certain destruction but we are still disappointed with him and his works. That’s why we are where we are. ME, Myself, and I”. world of generation “X”!
I woke up to watch it, and all I saw was a dark sky without even a star.
I alarmed my clock to watch the Blood moon and was very disappointed! The sky was dark and it rain all through the reign of the bloody moon. Next time bloody moon – hope the rain does not interfere with our date.
hmph the last lunar eclipse I saw was much more red than this one…
Do like me – drink two bottles of Southern Comfort just before the event and all you see is a big red disc… trust me!
It made you see things, eh? Hope you were able to get up this morning and without a hangover.
I saw it from the California high desert on a clear sky, it was
beautiful.
