Zetma Toussaint, President of the Dominica Council On Ageing (DCOA Inc), has led a team of Directors of the DCOA and well-wishers, to selected communities around the island, as part of a series of visits to the nation’s 26 surviving centenarians.

The visits began on December 11 and will continue on December 16 and 19.

Records show that there are to date, 28 Dominicans (2 of whom are currently residing overseas) who are centenarians.

Another centenarian will be added to the list on Christmas Day when Marie Laurent of Tete Morne, Grand Bay will celebrate her 100th birthday.

The DCOA Inc. will form part of the circle of family, relatives and well-wishers that will be on hand to celebrate with Laurent.

The DCOA’s visits will form part of an annual “Meet the Centenarians” activity which the new President intends to be a signature event of the Council.

For these visits the DCOA is ably supported by the firm of ISSA Trading Limited who has sponsored 27 Christmas hampers.

Each centenarian on island will receive one hamper when visited.

The DCOA has expressed gratitude to ISSA Trading Limited “for yet another exemplary gesture and calls on other corporate and civil entities to join with the Council in bringing comfort and a feeling of Christmas to the centenarians and elderly citizens of Dominica.”

DNO, are you allowed to publish the names of all the centurions? I would like to visit as many of them as possible that I can ask for some tips. This is an excellent initiative.

Admin: Certainly, we can work with the DCOA toward that end.

DNO please do your research the centenarian’s name is not Marie Laurent repeat not Marie Laurent. Family members are not happy when these mistakes are done.

Admin: That’s the information we received from the Dominica Council on Ageing (DCOA). If you are position to know what the correct name is, please give us the information so we can make the correction.
