Champagne Reef, located near Pointe Michel, has been named among the top ten Caribbean Snorkeling Destinations for 2013.

The list was formulated by Caribbean Journal in its inaugural Snorkeling List for the region.

The publication describes Champagne Reef as a “spot is unique in the region.”

This is how the spot was described by Caribbean Journal, “Dominica’s subterranean geothermal activity pushes up through small cracks on the sea floor, filling the water with small, warm bubbles – hence the name. But the underwater scenery, particularly the sponges, makes it a particularly tasty snorkeling cocktail.”

According to the Discover Dominica Authority’s website, Champagne Reef is “Shallow enough to be enjoyed by snorkelers and scuba divers alike, the water temperature over the vents found throughout the reef can reach 90 degrees, making the sea floor warm to the touch!”

The area is described as a “hot tub in the middle of the ocean” due to the constant rise of hot bubbling gasses creating a “truly unique experience.”

Yes , this is all well and good . But how are people from outsde going to access your country.
Too many stop overs to get there.
The tourism sector has to do more than just tell people what a great and beautiful country Dominica is, but they have to “Sell” the land by competing more with the other reginal islands. They have the same things too, but ours is better.
Air access is a big area to start.

Hey, we don’t want people who complain about getting here, if you don’t want to take a risk and a few stops, don’t come, we know others who will!!!

Are you serious? So you’re telling me that when considering destinations to go to ease of travel is not one of your criteria? You obviously do not travel a lot because if you did you would know that this can possibly one of the most stressful things to deal with.

I would think the choice of photo would to emphasize the name of the reef. This is where the bubles are released which is the highlight of this site.

I read the actual article by the Carribean Snorkelling Destinations 2013, and the only picture they had of Champaigne was of the boardwalk over the stones. So according to ‘Coral’, this is a great pic. I agree.
