The CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank has made available $3,000 to the National HIV/AIDS Unit which will provide scholarship assistance to a child who is either affected or infected with HIV/AIDS.

Business Support Officer at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Rhona Lawrence, told a presentation ceremony held at the bank on Tuesday that the donation is part of a yearly initiative introduced by the bank over ten years.

“We understand that this is a very serious illness that can affect anybody at anytime and this is the way that FirstCaribbean makes its contribution to the cause by helping with a scholarship through the HIV Unit,” she said.

National HIV/AIDS Unit representative, Lester Guye, thanked the bank for its continuous support.

“I must say it’s much needed, much appreciated and has become extremely useful because right now there are a lot of young persons who are affected through their parents or through themselves with HIV,” Guye stated.

As part of giving back to CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank he presented some of the representatives of the bank with water bottles that was used during the carnival season.

Other institutions the bank have assisted include the Alpha Centre and Dominica Council on Aging.
