Colombia’s new Ambassador to Dominica His Excellency Luis Martinez Fernandez presented his credentials to Dominica’s President H.E Eliud Williams, in a traditional ceremony on Wednesday.

The new ambassador, who is on a tour of Duty of the Eastern Caribbean, replaced departing Ambassador Ventura Diaz-Mejia.

The new Colombian Ambassador has set the task of promoting good relations between the both countries.

According to Ambassador Fernandez, “Columbia will make every possible effort to collaborate with your Government on vital areas of our relation as has been done in the past. I hereby manifest the willingness to continue on the path for fruitful results.”

President Williams, in welcoming the newly appointed Colombian ambassador, expressed the hope that Dominica would work towards further enhancing and diversifying the already existing close ties of the respective countries.

“I have noted the desire from you as well as indeed on behalf of your Government to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation which exist between our two countries,” he stated.

The president remarked that “Dominica over the years has benefited from Columbia’s Cooperation Strategy for the Caribbean basin introduced in 2009 which proposed cooperation activities primarily in the areas of bilingualism, disaster mitigation and response, food security and technical cooperation.”

Williams said he is “aware that Columbia is interested in strengthening its Cooperation Strategy with Dominica by concentrating cooperation efforts in the areas of culture, technical and vocational education and training.”

Dominica’s head of state noted further that there is a need to explore further and to follow up on the areas of cooperation already identified during previous visits by Colombian officials particularly in the area of management of water resources.

Williams also asked that the new Colombian Ambassador consider any direct bilateral development projects which could form part of a technical cooperation agreement between Dominica and the Republic of Columbia.

Colombia and the Commonwealth of Dominica have maintained excellent relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations twenty-one years ago.

I would not take that so lightly my friend. Because of our relatively small poppulation 15 murders/yr. would translate into a homicide rate of 22 (measured per 100,000 population) and belies our claim to be a peaceful and friendly people. Now compare that with the neigbouring iland of Martinique, which shows a homicide rate of “only” 4.2, which although low for Caribbean standards is still in excess of the rates pertaining to W. European countries. The point is, we should not be complacent. One murder is one too many.

It’s questionable to see all the countries our PM aligning himself with.

    Venezuela – poverty and drug-trafficking
    Cuba – communist ideology oppression.
    Libya – State sponsored terrorist.
    Colombia – International drug trafficking
China – extreme human rights violations and oppressive regime.

Morocco – a constitutional monarchy with the Ryuler yielding vast executive and legaslative powers in the absence of a real democracy.

Serbia – ethnic cleansing, war crimes and the memory of Screbrenica

We also align ourselves with the US known for espionage, spying and destabilizing and invading foreign countries in violation of international law and also for the conduct of drone attacks in the middle east which kil countless civilians including children.

The Colombian presence in DA is a good counterpoise to the left extremist and overwhelming Venezuelan presence.

The Colombian gvt has nothing to do with drug trafficants ; instead, he’s chasing them with international cooperation from democratic countries, like USA and Europe

Tell the ambassador to tell his people in Columbia to stop trafficking their cocaine through Dominica and keep their poison to themselves. They should be exporting some of those gorgeous nice big batty Columbian women to add to our population and we in turn will send them good music, peace and love!
