Community leader raises concerns over alleged kidnapping in La Plaine

kidnap

A community leader in La Plaine has raised concerns about what he describes as series of alleged kidnappings by a high ranking official and his son on Saturday.

Dominica News Online (DNO) understands that three men of the community were accused of stealing agricultural produce from the official’s holdings and the men were picked up one by one to be questioned and were allegedly beaten.

“It is a matter of concern, it is a matter to the community, this is completely intolerable and we are not going to tolerate that nonsense no matter who you are,” the community leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, told DNO. “This is totally unacceptable. Nobody is above the law. That is something that needs to be addressed. We want justice because that is crazy.”

The community leader stated that dasheen was indeed tampered with on the official’s property, however, none of the men who were allegedly picked up and beaten were found on that property.

Sylo Jno Baptiste one of the men who was allegedly captured and beaten admitted during an interview that the official, “blows me up.”

“He told me that I steal his dasheen and I am innocent,” an emotional Jno Baptiste said. “Then he told, me tell him whoever did it and I said I don’t know, so he beat me up. He take a stick and beat me up.”

Jno Baptiste stated that he and two other men from the community were locked up in the official’s basement.

“I felt very bad…” he said in tears.

DNO understands that the police are aware of what transpired.

DNO contacted the official, however, he said he did not wish to comment on the matter.

Why must we be bombarded with this load of hearsay, This is not a credible new story. Who is the alleged perpetrator. If there is that much uncertainty in who the perpetrator is may the story should be held until the story can be told in a convincing way. Is DNO unable to tell the truth .

Names need to be called, offenders need to be outed. Hiding in the shadows with fear will only make these people stronger. No official should be abusing people like this. Why didn’t he call the police to investigate?

But we all know the official by name. What I want to know what is the police doing about this or did the captured men made a report to the police? again some people in position think they are above the law. I know nothing will be done about this.

This is another glaring example of top officials having absolutely no respect for the law and the constitution. In a mature democracy, the official and the government would immediately put out a release to dispel these serious allegations. Instead we are greeted with a stone wall of silence.

The Dominica Freedom Party will not put up with this nonsense! The people of Dominica are not children to be treated with such disdain. Postal workers protesting hazardous conditions are immediately victimized. And what the unions or the police do? Absolutely nothing. If you are looking for the meaning of the word useless – there it is!

A socialist country is supposed to be a workers’ paradise. Instead workers in Dominica, from public works to teachers to nurses and doctors are treated like trash. We must put an end to this NOW. Otherwise when they pick you up and beat you up, there will no one will any _ _ _ _ _ left to defend you.

  8. September 28, 2016

That is terrible to take justice in his own hands as no one is above the law. And if indeed the boys are innocent karma will eventually find this high official no matter how long it takes. We are surrounded by North, South ,East and West no one knows from which direction KARMA is going to show up from. KARMA never forget he always aim straight and always on point.

Is there some good reason why when these matters are brought to public attention that we do not specifically identify by name but refer to official, police officer, person, guy, lady. Do these people not have names???Who is the so called official???

    • September 28, 2016

I’ve been thinking the very same why is it they are not calling the names of the persons who committed this action, why even the gentleman who got beaten up wouldn’t call the names of the persons who was present why is he holding back. Dominicans just not ready and I can’t feel sorry for them they have to speak out the public have a right to know the name and office of the individual it’s sending the wrong message to the people.

  11. September 28, 2016

Dominicans are taking crime to a higher level ;if the gov’t fail to punish such bad attitude well expect the situation to worsen in the future…

  20. KID ON THE BLOCK
    September 27, 2016

La Plaine have a set of young men who do nothing but drink rum and steal people things and sell. The three men they say that was allegedly beaten are notorious voles. One of them was the same one who stole the tin of sardine in a super market in the village. Those guys are strong and healthy and do nothing but idle on the block waiting for the moment to strike. How on Earth they could be described as FARMERS? Are they the kind of Farmers who Harvest what others sow? The Talk Show Host that have that making political mileage is wicked. He should try to get to know more of those guys. Enough is Enough. When ONE can’t take no more anything can happen. Matt, how would you feel after planting your garden and someone passes and take THREE BAGS of your dasheen and go and sell it?

What a thing for the official to do. He should know that he should have immediately reported the theft to the police and let them handle it. If he suspected those men, he should have given their names to the police for investigation.
On the other hand, people are upset about theft of their property and those thieves getting off scot-free. They are very good at lying their way out of it.
If the thieves are not yet caught, the police should take fingerprints of the area. If they are caught their fingerprints should be taken and compare both to ascertain that the suspects are the culprits. Fingerprints do not lie.

Remember the utterances of someone in high authority “no law, no constitution…..” That must be the mantra for them all.

What is really going on in our beloved country and when will it end?

Let us keep the candle burning and pray continuously for Dominica and its people.

The writer should not be staying anonymous. If it so bad dont be afraid to say who you are. Some time ago one hard working farmer lost 20 bunches of plantains and another 10 bunches. So thats what the writer likes. To see farmers work so hard and lazy good for nothing voleur steal their thing. Garcon take your blows and run. 99 days for the voleur and one for the master.

I sympathise with you, that is a real plague in Dominica . But it is not right for anyone to take the law into their own hands, and especially not a Minister of govt. as is alleged. Because that also sends a clear message that those in authority either have no confidence in- or have contempt for the very police force appointed by them to uphold law and order. .

    September 27, 2016

The community leader writing that because of politics. There is a clicque of voleh in the place. They stealing every thing from every body. Breaking into peoples home and steal their stuff. Someone needed to teach them a lesson. They lucky they did not come my side of the village , because they would not live to tell the story. DNO go to the La Plaine Police Station and find out the number of cases for praedial larceny alone and tell me if the writer of the article not a soutiweh too.

This is absolutely ridiculous and totally unacceptable!! How can a man in such a position, who is meant to lead by example, do such a thing? And how can people from the church, because they are from the same church and are supporters of him and his political party, stand there and entertain, encourage and support such actions? How is it possible that a police officer (allegedly) stands there and witnesses such a scene and does nothing whatever to intervene? How is it that the Chairperson of the Village Council (allegedly) stands there also witnessing this without acting to stop it? HAVE THE VICTIMS MADE AN OFFICIAL REPORT TO THE LAPLAINE POLICE? If not, they need to do so and monitor the police to ensure that they act on the info!! WHEN WILL OUR PEOPLE WAKE UP?? I AM WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE PM DOES ABOUT THIS!!

  32. September 27, 2016

What sort of dotish people we have in this country. You allowing someone to do this to you with no retaliation. This reminds of the incident where the port workers were unceremoniously picked up and deposited to a medical lab where tests were performed on them with no repercussions. what a set of DUMB people in my country

Even if guilty they can not be determined so unless they make an admission of guilt without any duress. In any case, Even then, it is totally unacceptable for anyone, especially a leader of a community to take the law in their own hands and try and administer ad hoc justice. Feudal days have long gone from Dominica and I pray we do not see a return of methods we abhorred in our erstwhile masters.
