Crispin Gregoire gets UNDP job

Crispin Gregoire

Former Ambassador/Permanent representative of Dominica at the United Nation Crispin Gregoire has been appointed United Nation Development Program’s (UNDP) Chief of the Caribbean Strategic Monitoring and Support Unit of the Regional Bureau of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The announcement was made on Tuesday via email by Heraldo Munoz UNDP’s Regional Director for the Regional Bureau of Latin America and the Caribbean. The email was  circulated to all staff of the Bureau of Latin America and the Caribbean, which includes all of the country offices and the Panama Regional Center.

In that position Gregoire will serve as the principal advocate at New York headquarters for the five Caribbean-country Offices located in Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname.  He is expected to provide oversight and management support to these country offices, serve as a broker for mobilization of additional resources for their programs, build strategic alliances with donors and other resource organizations, and manage the Caribbean Regional Program undertaken jointly with the CARICOM Secretariat.

According to Munoz, Gregoire has had a distinguished professional background in diplomacy, international development, and global civil society.  He served as Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the United Nations from 2002 to 2010.  He has also served as Director of Global Programs at Board Source in Washington, DC; Program Consultant with The Ford Foundation in the Nigeria-based Office for West Africa;  Program Manager, Techno-Serve, Nigeria; Acting Director of the Injury Prevention Program at the New York City Department of Health; and Director of the Dominica Field Office of Save the Children Federation.

Gregoire has a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations degree from Columbia University and a Master’s in Education and Development Studies from Howard University.

As one who knew him as a young man and went to school with him for a year, I always knew he would do great things. He has always had a good heart and is a true idealist. His intentions are always good. I am proud of him and proud to know him.

Congrats Mr. Gregoire, you are a light for many Dominicans especially the young ones! Some of the comments make me sick! Many of us are just so petty. Rise up people!

DNO, the top job at the UN is the post of Secretary General of the UNITED NATIONS. This post is currently held by korean Ban Ki-Moon. So your title seems a bit exaggerate and may serve to mislead the uninformed.

Personally I dont find the headline misleading. The article says ” top job at the UN” and not “the top job”. DNO, I think you are in the clear on this one.

Choice X what you seem to be overlooking is the bigger picture, while in Dominica we are discarding the competent persons because of petty political differences i.e. Mr Gregory refusal to be part of all the corrupt practices, what we see today is that other organizations like the UN is making use of his competence

CONGRATULATION TO YOU SIR. BUT REMEMBER THIS APPOINTMENT WOULD NOT COME WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE PRIME MINISTER/MIN OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS. YOU MUST TELL THE DOMINICAN PEOPLE SO.
    GOOD LUCK.

    • Truth
      May 2, 2012

But even if they had tried to stop this appointment , they will not have succeeded. You all have to stop seeing things only fom the P.M point of view all the time. Have a mind of your own for once.

    • I SO DEN?
      May 2, 2012

Who say the PM had anything to do with Crispins’ appointment. Dominicans are so shallow you all really believe Skerrit has some heavy influence globally. Go attend any event out of Dominica and see him in action then talk.

    • CIA on the watch
      May 2, 2012

West Coast GUY, what does that mean the track record of your PM is nothing that one will want to make reference to in applying for a job, passport sale, bin bobol, land transfer deal, Susuan Oldie, no law no constitution, lie under oath on nomination day and the long list has no end, base on that no right thinking individual will want to use Roosevelt Skerrit as reference, had Crispin done that he would not get this job

    • anonymous2
      May 3, 2012

All they are going to do is use him in whatever way they choose. That is what they do best. Use people to their own purposes.

  13. De PM
    May 2, 2012

But who put Crispin foot in the UN in the first place nuh? Not the PM?

If the PM didn’t make him Ambassador to the UN in the first place, the UN would never have heard of him.

Way to go PM….you have foresight in everything you do.

Congrats Crispin. You make us proud but doh forget those who paved the way for you.

    • Honorable Met Yo
      May 2, 2012

the kinda laughable stuff i read here…

Skerrit became PM in 2004…Crispin was out there doing his thing long before Skerrit even thought Pierro would die.

      • De PM
        May 2, 2012

        I mentioned Skerrit name nuh?

You see how all u just see so blue all u doh even know what all u saying. All u so blue, is Skerrit all u seeing in everything.

All u just eat, sleep and dream Skerrit.

        Hahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaaha

    • Mahaut.
      May 2, 2012

Skerrit is a young lad and had nothing to do with Crispin’s appointment as ambassador of Dominican to the UN.
But it was some in DLP who tried their best to sublime the say all sorts of untruths about Crispin. But that did not stop Crispin from continuing to up-lift Dominica.
Crispin has integrity, proffessionalism and foresight that non of these selfish guys will ever have.
He won’t sell Dominica to the next highest bidder.

    • I SO DEN?
      May 2, 2012

Yeah right and then say you didn’t mean it was Skerrit or labour. Pierro and Roosie are dead so who in the tarnation could you be asking to continue having foresight. Because so many of you have to grovel and sell your souls for scraps, don’t think every other Dominican need political favours to get ahead? Then it becomes blue vs red.

You must think the UN is some rum shop or financial center where you all can go and beg for positions, text sell your sisters and daughters for scraps? SKerrit and his party have no influence at the UN and this is where credentials talk and bs walks! There is a whole world functioning at a higher level than this nepotism and dog bite dog scandal that goes on in Dominica

    • richard
      May 2, 2012

Here are some pertinent facts. Actually it was the Hon. Pierre Charles who appointed Crispin Gregoire as Dominica’s Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations on October 1st 2002. His appointment was revoked by the Government of Dominica on March 1, 2010.

    • Malgraysa
      May 3, 2012

Man, how warped can you get? Is not Skerrit, who appointed him but Pierre Charles but is Skerrit , who sacked him and replaced him with Vince. And now you want Skerrit to take the credit? For what?

Allow me to give my little cents.

Here we a guy, who has been bashed by the Dominica Labour Party and their apologists when he pointed out several wrong doings and questionable activities for the government.

His professionalism, ability, skills and qualification were eroded simply because he chose to be a true patriot.

He had an interest in running for Grandbay, but the king said NO WAY, you have an american passport. The same person who had a french passport told the man to back out, simply because he was seen as a potential leader in the party.

Then they all scandalized the guys name claiming he cannot find a job and a whooooole setta none sense. Today, Mr. Crispin Gregoire is again getting his vindication. And trust me….he will receive further vindication as things continue to unfold about Dominica inside and outside of Dominica.

Everyone, eat healthy, exercise, get your regular check up so that you can live long enough to see alot of things in this country!

    How long? Not long.

Admin you can dis-approve my comment if you want.

Isn’t it interesting on which side of the aisle you are?

Politics is a game of agendas and special interest.

I find it funny how the UWP can say all sorts of negative stories about Timothy and DLP loves him now

And also find it laughable that the UWP is in love with Gregoire (they called him the Architect of the 2005 DLP Victory) and despised him .

POLITICS , the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

    • Malatete

And what objections would he have been able to bring to bear Jude? This is an appointment by the U.N. for the U.N., has little to do with Dominica and was made on merit, Crispin Gregoire’s merit! He did not require a sanction from either king, pope or a would-be president.

      Well said Doc.
But to be honest, had Crispin run for labour in grand bay he would have won, and Rosevelt would have been history. he Rosevelt knew that an could not take that chance. that’s why he surrounds himself .

Congrats Mr. Gregoire. You see good things come to those who wait. If you had gone up for labour you would have to give up your citizenship, your family and your luxurious life. NOW YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. GOOD FOR YOU.

    • richard
      May 2, 2012

It always amazes me when people who are not informed give the impression they are informed. That last comment about Crispin and “your luxurious life” illustrates my point. Crispin once said on DBS Radio ” This job is not the best paying job in the world. In fact I’ve been doing community service for Dominica abroad”. As Ambassador for nearly 8 years Crispin had the smallest Mission to the UN in all of CARICOM. While other CARICOM Missions had the ambassador and up to 5 diplomats Crispin worked alone. Dont confuse the Dominican Consulate with a Counsel General and Secretary with the Dominica Mission to the UN. Further Crispin was once hospitalised through overwork and exhaustion. So the idea that Crispin was in New York having a good time is totally false.
